Tour-Maubourg Unveils Enchanting EP "The Panorama Sessions"
Following the resounding success of his second album, "Spaces of Silence," released in early 2023, Tour-Maubourg returns with a captivating new EP, "The Panorama Sessions." This latest offering features four tracks meticulously extracted from his live performances, reimagined, and passionately interpreted in collaboration with saxophonist Ismaël Ndir. The result is an exceptional sonic journey that reflects the distinctive artistry of these two singular musicians.
The EP's creation involved a unique process of deconstructing Tour-Maubourg's original tracks to rediscover their fundamental essence. This transformative journey was fueled by the collaboration with saxophonist Ismaël Ndir, leading to fresh interpretations that were then recorded at Panorama Studio in Brussels. Tour-Maubourg shares his insights on the project, stating, "This EP is the result of a process and reflection involving the deconstruction of my tracks to return to their fundamental essence."
The opening track, "Opening Theme," marks the inception of the duo's live performances and stands out as the only entirely new piece on the EP. A fusion of afrobeat and jazz, it sets the tone for the mesmerizing journey ahead. Tour-Maubourg explains, "We needed an introductory piece, so I unearthed a project. We developed it until we achieved this result, a mix of afrobeat and film music in the style of Ennio Morricone on warm harmonies."
The EP continues with a reimagined version of "La Berceuse des Vieux Amants" from Tour-Maubourg's previous album, "Spaces of Silence." This track takes on warmer, more danceable airs, infusing South American sweetness into the familiar melody. The artist expresses, "Here, we wanted to give a new life to the original piece by grafting its theme and harmonies onto a more upbeat rhythm. The result is a kind of funk ballad on the border between Eumir Deodato and Herbie Hancock."
Another highlight is the reimagining of the iconic track "Ode to Love," originally released on Tour-Maubourg's debut album, "Paradis Artificiels." This rendition, enhanced by the talent of drummer Fréjus Méa, showcases a delightful conversation between saxophone and keyboard, capturing the airy and delightful essence of the beginnings of a love affair.
The EP concludes with "Saint Thé à la Menthe," drawing from Tour-Maubourg's debut album. Blending electronic and acoustic elements, this track delivers a mesmerizing interpretation, harmonizing the powerful rhythms and enveloping keyboards with Ismaël Ndir's Afro-jazz flights.
Tour-Maubourg's "The Panorama Sessions" showcases the artist's evolution and innovative approach to his own work. The EP is a testament to his ability to seamlessly merge electronic and acoustic elements, creating an enchanting musical experience. With a track record that positions him as a pivotal figure in the modern electronic scene, Tour-Maubourg continues to leave an indelible mark with each release.
