Wishy unleash second album Nature’s Pill via Winspear
Indianapolis indie rockers Wishy have released their second album, Nature’s Pill, today via Winspear — a 12-track rush of dream-pop, indie rock and romantic melodrama that finds the band pushing their sound beyond the world of their acclaimed 2024 debut Triple Seven.
Already tipped by the likes of The New York Times, The Guardian, NME, Pitchfork, Stereogum and The Line of Best Fit, Nature’s Pill sees Wishy embracing a broader palette, folding ‘90s dream-pop and alt-rock into ‘80s college rock and ‘00s indie.
The album marks a more collaborative chapter for the Indianapolis five-piece. Vocalists and songwriters Krauter and Pitchkites, who first met in high school, wrote together as well as separately, while guitarist Dimitri Morris and bassist Mitch Collins also contributed to the songwriting. The band then reunited with Triple Seven producer Ben Lumsdaine in Los Angeles, tracking half the record live in a small studio to capture the energy of a group sharpened by extensive touring.
“This album was more intentional,” says Pitchkites, while Krauter describes the resulting record as a “Pandora’s Box of everything.”
That anything-goes approach runs through Nature’s Pill, which moves between jangling indie-pop, hazy dream-pop and fuzzed-up guitar music while circling themes of lust, romantic frustration, desire and emotional turmoil. Rather than straightforward confessionals, Wishy use fictional and exaggerated scenarios to explore the absurdity of being human and falling in — or out of — love.
The band have already previewed the album with singles including All The Rage, Lovesick, Sensational and Mona Lisa. Today they also share a video for Covergirl, adding another dose of Wishy’s buoyant, hook-heavy aesthetic to the album’s release.
Following this weekend’s hometown celebration Wishyfest in Indianapolis, Wishy will take Nature’s Pill on the road, beginning a US tour next week with support from youbet, The Umbrellas, Dead Sullivan and Touch Girl Apple Blossom.
For a band whose music thrives on the collision of nostalgia, romance and sheer pop immediacy, Nature’s Pill is Wishy letting themselves fully embrace the chaos — and inviting everyone else along for the ride.
