Introducing: Sophie Griffiths

Sophie Griffiths is back and bolder than ever with her latest single, The Boys—a Motown-inspired soul-pop anthem that perfectly blends her sharp wit, infectious melodies, and unmistakable storytelling charm. With over 8.5M social media views in 2024 and a dedicated following of 420k+ (including 390k+ on TikTok), Sophie continues to captivate fans worldwide.

Following standout achievements like placements on Love Island and I’m a Celeb, a sold-out London headline show, and a Hunger Magazine spotlight, The Boys promises to be the ultimate tongue-in-cheek ode to modern dating fails. Co-written with Jonny Wright (Freya Ridings, Birdy), this single reaffirms Sophie’s place as one of the UK's most exciting rising artists. Don't miss it—dropping 24th October!

1. “The Boys” has a distinct 60s-inspired sound paired with your modern storytelling. How did you develop this unique blend, and what inspired you to merge these influences for this track?

I have always loved the 60s Motown era - it was the first style of music that made me feel something growing up. I’ve also always known that I wanted to have hints of that era in my sound and music, but never really knew how until about a year ago. It truly has been a journey to discover my identity and sound as an artist, and TikTok has been a massive part of that. I started posting on TikTok at the beginning of lockdown, alongside the rest of the world trying to pass the time HAH; initially just having fun with trending content with my sister, but then realised what an amazing opportunity it was for independent artists. So, I began to play around with music content ideas and started rewriting tv theme tunes about modern topics; one video hit a million views and it went from there. That developed into me taking 60s/70s pop hits and rewriting the lyrics as if they were written today, and they went down even better (with one video hitting 7.6 million views). I was having so much fun making those rewrites for content, I started combining my modern day, tongue-and-cheek lyric storytelling in my own music with a 60s inspired groove I’ve always loved, and my songs ‘Modern Love’, ‘To The Point’ and ‘The Boys’ were born.

2. With over 420k followers and millions of views on social media, how has your relationship with your audience shaped the direction of your music, especially with “The Boys”?

I am so grateful for my online platform; my audience have become friends who I can vent to about real life stuff that gets me down, and I express that to them through my lyrics and original music. I am someone who thrives from creating music that connects with people, so my modern day rewrites of old school songs have really helped me understand what my audience responds to and like to hear from me; inspiring what I write about in my original music.

3. The song’s lyrics capture the humor and frustration of modern dating. Can you share more about the story behind this track and how you use humor to connect with listeners facing similar experiences?

I actually had the song title ‘Who let the boys in?’ before I went into the session with my co-writer Jonny Wright. I was genuinely at the end of my tether with dating at the time - I’d been on too many rubbish dates and had just had another talking stage that went down the drain. The dating fails in this song are genuinely true experiences, and it just got to the point where I was like, is love dead, or is it just me? I dunno lol. I think us Brits are good at using humour to wade through the rubbish times in life, so I really wanted that frustration to come across in a light hearted ‘if you don’t laugh you’ll cry’ kinda way, and I think that’s what people connected with. I wanted it to feel like I was debriefing with the girls!

4. This year has been packed with milestones, from sold-out shows to high-profile placements on Love Island and BBC airplay. What moments stand out most, and how have they impacted you as an artist?

Ooo this is a really hard question because I am so grateful for every win and milestone moment! I have to say though, hearing people sing my songs back to me at my headline show this year was the most beautiful moment EVER. Anyone who has put on a headline show will know how stressful the lead up is; there are endless things to worry about. BUT people spending their time and money to come and watch lil old me makes my heart so full. Whenever I’m having a low moment in this industry, I just go back and watch a video from that show and it makes it all worth it!

5. With “The Boys” adding to a string of successful releases, what can fans expect from you next? Are there any upcoming projects or new directions you’re excited to explore in 2025?

Thank you!! I may or may not have a cheeky Christmas song coming at the end of this year, hint hint. I also have so much new music with a similar vibe to ‘The Boys’ that I can’t wait to share. 2025 is going to be GORGEOUS.
