Finn Askew continues his upward trajectory with the release of “Distance”, a slick, late-night R&B cut that arrives today (18 March) and sets the tone for his forthcoming mixtape, due this April.
Produced by Ezra Skys (Odeal, Central Cee, BXKS), “Distance” marks a shift in Askew’s recent output—leaning into a more playful, toxic energy built on tension, attitude, and emotional chaos. Rather than pulling from direct personal experience, the Somerset-born artist taps into a mood, crafting a track that thrives in the blurred lines of late-night decisions and messy feelings.
It’s a sound that feels increasingly natural for Askew. Having spent the past few years refining his style, he now lands comfortably in an R&B-leaning space, fusing pop sensibilities with more soulful textures. His vocal delivery glides effortlessly across the production, signalling a clear evolution ahead of the upcoming project.
“Finding yourself is the most challenging part but also the most rewarding,” Askew says. “And right now, I feel closer to it than ever.” “Distance” arrives with serious momentum. The track has already racked up over 11K pre-saves ahead of release, while Askew’s recent singles—“Green Light”, “Move On” and “Vows”—have been building anticipation around this new era. His creative partnership with Ezra Skys has been central to that evolution, with the pair working closely across the entire mixtape.
Industry co-signs have followed suit. Heavyweight names including SZA, Kehlani and Justin Bieber have all shown support in recent months, further cementing Askew’s position as one of the UK’s most exciting young voices.
Still only at the beginning of his career, Askew’s rise has been anything but quiet. Since breaking through during the pandemic with viral hit “Roses”—later amplified by BTS’ Jungkook—he’s amassed over 300 million streams globally, earned VEVO DSCVR recognition, and taken to stages at Reading & Leeds and The Great Escape
