Brodie Milner shares darkly comic new track “final thoughts from inside the machine (demo)”

Brodie Milner has released “final thoughts from inside the machine (demo)”, a sharply observed and darkly comic new track that reflects on modern life in the age of big tech and late-stage capitalism.

The song imagines a man outsourcing his final words to a tech giant, turning an existential moment into something absurd, bleak and strangely funny. Drawing on the wry storytelling and biting humour of artists such as Father John Misty, Bo Burnham, Matt Maltese and Nick Cave, Milner delivers a tragicomic reflection on the strange contradictions of contemporary life.

Originally shared online as a rough demo, the track quickly gathered momentum. Within 48 hours it had surpassed 500,000 plays on TikTok, resonating widely for its dry humour and painfully relatable commentary. Although the song is not intended for Milner’s forthcoming EP Holy Ghost Survivors Group, the reaction prompted a full release across streaming platforms on 16 March.

Speaking about the track, Milner explained:

“I don’t usually post songs online that I haven’t finished. But there was something about the first verse lyrics that felt urgent, and I wanted to capture the zeitgeist. I’m glad I did, because it seemed to resonate with a lot of people. In a way I was surprised, and in a lot of other ways not at all.”

The release arrives ahead of Milner’s next single “A Hateful Song”, set to land on 25 March, as anticipation builds around the upcoming EP.

With its blend of sardonic wit, existential reflection and viral momentum, “final thoughts from inside the machine (demo)” offers a striking snapshot of Brodie Milner’s voice as a songwriter unafraid to interrogate the absurdities of the modern world.
