Dana Gavanski Unleashes Third Album "LATE SLAP" with Captivating Opener and Provocative Video
Get ready for a sonic journey into the depths of Dana Gavanski's mind as she drops her third album, "LATE SLAP," hitting the airwaves on April 5, 2024. Following the success of 2022's "When It Comes," Gavanski takes us on an audacious exploration of the human psyche, injecting playfulness into the art of confronting emotional challenges.
Stream the album opener, "How To Feel Uncomfortable," now accompanied by a visually stunning and unsettling video directed by Ella Margolin "Late Slap," Gavanski courageously embraces the highs and lows of her character, celebrating the strangeness we all share on some level. The album serves as a testament to the power of facing discomfort head-on, as Gavanski discovered newfound confidence and energy during its creation.
The album opens with the punchy "How to Feel Uncomfortable," a sonic punch addressing the growing distances in our digital landscapes. Gavanski highlights the difficulty of sitting with oneself, exploring boredom, insecurity, and indecision, echoing the emotional rewards of such introspection.
Recorded with producer Mike Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP) at MESS in Margate, "Late Slap" features a five-piece band, including co-producer James Howard. Lindsay's attention to sonic detail and the addition of a Yamaha DX7 synth create a digital warmth reminiscent of Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s meditative masterpiece "Keyboard Fantasies."
The album's artwork, with Gavanski's ambiguous expression and screened-out black eyes, offers a visual feast of contradictory images, mirroring the tension within "Late Slap." It's a sudden jolt, a shock to the system that seeks to reconnect with the messy humanity of simply being human.
