Spanish Horses Share Debut Single ‘Hey Man (Hey Man!)’ as So Young Records Signings Announce London Launch Show
Spanish Horses are making their entrance with a bang.
Fresh from their End of the Road Festival appearance, the London-based newcomers have unveiled the video for their debut single, ‘Hey Man (Hey Man!)’, marking their first release since signing to So Young Records.
Already picking up serious momentum, the track has received early support from BBC 6 Music, with Huw Stephens, Emily Pilbeam, Nathan Shepherd and Roundtable among those championing the band.
Built around breezy Americana-tinged guitars, loose-limbed grooves and a restless sense of momentum, ‘Hey Man (Hey Man!)’ captures the tension of everyday life — and the urge to break out of it. It’s an assured first statement from a band who sound like they’ve arrived with their identity already fully formed.
“‘Hey Man (Hey Man!)’ is a musical statement and I really think it’s flipped a switch for us, this song found our sound,” the band explain. “The writing process was quick and easy, we laughed throughout. It came as an apparition, a divine intervention, a eureka moment!”
That eureka moment was enough to put Spanish Horses firmly on So Young Records’ radar. The track began life as a voice memo from guitarist Albert Cocker and bassist Victor Michee before drummer Cyril Stephan gave it the immediate, urgent punch that defines the finished recording.
The band’s story is itself split between two cities. Made up of British and French members, Spanish Horses formed in Paris before relocating to London, driven by a feeling that they had exhausted what the French capital could offer.
“We had nothing to lose, everything was fun and time was no concept for a while,” they say of their Paris years. “The move to London was motivated by the feeling of being stuck in a glass box.”
Now they’re throwing themselves into the London scene. Following a strong reception at End of the Road, Spanish Horses will celebrate ‘Hey Man (Hey Man!)’ with a free launch show tonight (September 8) at Helen of Troy in Soho.
And this is only the beginning. The band will follow the launch with dates across London, Paris, Berlin, Brussels and Sheffield, including shows with Bleech 9:3 and Little Grandad, as well as appearances at Float Along Festival and Left of the Dial Festival.
