Semiratruth Goes Deep Underground With New Single “Underwurld!”

Semiratruth is diving headfirst into the unknown.

The Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based artist has shared “Underwurld!”, the second preview of their forthcoming album S!M, arriving September 25 via Sooper Records.

A concise, ominous house cut, “Underwurld!” drops listeners straight into the deep end. Semiratruth describes the track as a space where you might be “being chased by something” — whether that’s shadow thoughts, the intensity of everyday life or whatever lurks beneath the surface.

The track arrives with a visualizer directed by Taylor Wren, adding a suitably otherworldly visual dimension to Semiratruth’s latest sonic portal.

Following lead single “Tudo Bem!”, “Underwurld!” offers another glimpse into the sprawling world of S!M. Across 22 tracks, Semiratruth moves freely between acid, juke, techno, baile funk, ambient and industrial textures, drawing on everything from spiritual jazz and cosmic synths to the early electronic sounds of Chicago and Detroit.

It’s a wildly expansive palette, but the project has a clear centre: Semiratruth’s instinct for turning electronic music into something deeply personal.

S!M is their first album to be written, recorded, produced and mixed entirely by themselves, bringing together years of experimentation with hardware, live performance and self-produced hip-hop. The result is an intimate but futuristic electronic language that feels equally at home in a sweaty club or inside a pair of headphones.

Since relocating to New York, Semiratruth has become a fixture across the US underground, Guatemala and the Netherlands, performing alongside artists including Loraine James and opening for MIKE. Their live sets — built around synths, samplers and a tabletop of electronics — have become immersive exercises in collective energy.

On S!M, those same instincts expand into 22 miniature universes, where glitch, rhythm, voice and atmosphere collide.

And there’s plenty more to come. To mark the album’s release, Semiratruth will host listening parties in New York, Chicago and Guatemala City, beginning September 20 at Silence Please in New York, followed by Charis Listening Bar in Chicago on September 25 and La Popular in Guatemala City on October 1.

With S!M, Semiratruth isn’t simply building a record. They’re constructing a whole new set of coordinates.

“Underwurld!” is out now. S!M arrives September 25 via Sooper Records.
