NOIA returns with razor-sharp new single “As Per My Last Email”

Brooklyn-based, Barcelona-born artist NOIA — the alias of composer, producer and vocalist Gisela Fullà-Silvestre — has returned with her first new music since acclaimed 2023 debut gisela, unveiling the brilliantly frazzled new single and video “As Per My Last Email.”

A darkly playful dispatch from the age of permanent availability, the track turns corporate language into a portrait of digital burnout. “As per my last email, I haven’t been able to focus” becomes a mantra, while the promise of being “available all night, all day, every day” starts to sound less like professional etiquette and more like a cry for help.

It’s a fitting return for an artist whose work has always thrived on collision: electronic pop meets Mediterranean folklore, intimate songwriting meets restless sound design, and multiple languages and identities coexist within the same musical world.

“As Per My Last Email” was written during a period when Fullà-Silvestre was navigating grief, upheaval and the relentless demands of life in New York City. The track takes aim at the modern expectation to remain permanently reachable — answering messages at midnight, living through notifications and turning exhaustion into a badge of productivity.

As NOIA explains:

“It’s what happens when ‘just circling back’ becomes a way of life. A song about the slow collapse of hyperfunctionality, that state of being permanently ‘on’…”

The accompanying video, directed by Varya Rootwood, pushes the concept into surreal territory. Shot in the Bronx Riviera during the height of summer, Fullà-Silvestre finds herself trapped inside two bizarre office environments — a forest and an ocean beach — attempting to work while the boundaries between professional and personal life steadily dissolve.

The result is part office satire, part fever dream: a visual world where the pressure to keep functioning eventually turns the worker into part of the machinery itself.

The new single follows a breakthrough run for NOIA, whose debut gisela earned praise from Pitchfork, NPR Music and The New York Times, with Pitchfork highlighting her ability to fuse bolero, synths and dembow into something distinctly her own. The album also featured collaborations with Ela Minus, Buscabulla and Maria Arnal.

Beyond her work as NOIA, Fullà-Silvestre is an accomplished composer, sound designer, re-recording mixer and vocalist whose credits span film, television and music. Her work includes the Oscar-nominated documentary Ascension and the Emmy-winning New York Times Op-Doc ¡Atención! Murderer Next Door, alongside films that have screened at Sundance, Tribeca, Berlinale and SXSW.

With “As Per My Last Email”, NOIA returns not with an escape from modern overstimulation, but with a sharply observed soundtrack for living inside it — where the inbox never sleeps, “just circling back” becomes a way of life, and even paradise comes with a Wi-Fi connection.
