Lucia & The Best Boys Announce New Album Picking Petals and Share New Single

Scottish alt-pop outfit Lucia & The Best Boys have announced their highly anticipated new album Picking Petals, set for release on 31 July via Communion Records. Alongside the announcement, the band have unveiled a new single, You Look Like Somebody In Love, offering another glimpse into the record’s emotional and sonic landscape.

The album marks a significant moment for frontwoman Lucia Fairfull, representing both a creative evolution and the culmination of years of dedication. Rooted in her Scottish upbringing and the tight-knit creative community she has fostered in Glasgow, Picking Petals draws from a lineage of bold, unapologetic performers while remaining deeply personal in its storytelling.

Much of the record was written in remote, weather-beaten bothies in Scotland, where Fairfull worked both collaboratively with her band and in solitude. The project also saw acclaimed alt-pop producer Yves Rothman travel from Los Angeles to Glasgow, where sessions took place in Mogwai’s Castle of Doom studio. Within days, the team had created the album’s opening track, Back Inside My Heart, a driving, synth-led anthem that sets the tone for the record.

The newly released single You Look Like Somebody In Love captures themes of longing and reflection, blending vivid lyricism with atmospheric instrumentation, including traditional influences such as bothy-style violins. The track follows earlier release Lonely Girl, a collaboration with CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry, which explored themes of growth and the importance of community.

Connections and friendships remain central throughout the album. Big Romance features vocals from Abigail Morris of The Last Dinner Party, whose long-standing relationship with Fairfull adds another layer of intimacy to the record. Meanwhile, the title track Picking Petals reflects a decade of self-discovery, pairing vulnerability with a sense of resilience.

The full tracklist for Picking Petals is:

  1. Back Inside My Heart

  2. Lonely Girl (feat. Lauren Mayberry)

  3. Wolf Cry

  4. Better For The Worse

  5. You Look Like Somebody In Love

  6. Picking Petals

The album arrives ahead of Lucia & The Best Boys’ biggest headline show to date at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom on 23 October. The band will also perform headline shows in Manchester and London, alongside appearances at major UK festivals throughout the spring and summer, including The Great Escape, Isle of Wight Festival, and Wilderness Festival.

With Picking Petals, Lucia & The Best Boys continue to carve out their place in the UK’s alt-pop landscape, blending introspective songwriting with expansive, emotionally charged production.
