Lewis Capaldi returned to London's BST Hyde Park in triumphant fashion on Saturday night (11 July), headlining the Great Oak Stage in front of more than 65,000 fans for what has been hailed as the biggest headline show of his career.
Broadcast live via YouTube, the emotionally charged 90-minute performance saw Capaldi celebrate his remarkable comeback with a hit-packed set, a heartfelt reception from the Hyde Park crowd and a surprise appearance from Sam Fender, who joined him on stage for a special performance of "Rein Me In."
Opening with "Hollywood," "Grace" and "Heavenly State of Mind," Capaldi wasted no time reconnecting with the huge audience, joking after the opening trio, "Thank God the first three songs are done, I was f**ing shtting myself." From there, he effortlessly moved through fan favourites including "Wish You The Best," "Bruises," "Pointless" and "Before You Go," with thousands of voices carrying every chorus back to the stage.
One of the night's defining moments arrived midway through the set as Capaldi welcomed his "dear, dear friend" Sam Fender to the stage. The pair performed Fender's chart-topping single "Rein Me In," just days after it became the longest-running UK No. 1 by a British artist, prompting one of the loudest singalongs of the evening.
As the sun dipped behind Hyde Park, Capaldi's trademark humour gave way to raw emotion. During "The Day That I Die," the singer became visibly overwhelmed as the crowd rallied behind him, chanting his name in a powerful show of support before joining him throughout "Hold Me While You Wait" and "Forget Me."
Returning for an encore with a heartfelt cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Have You Ever Seen The Rain," Capaldi closed the show with "Survive" before delivering a stirring rendition of "Someone You Loved." Fighting back tears, he thanked fans for standing by him before revealing he would be taking time away to begin work on a new album.
"Thank you so much for sticking with me," he told the audience. "After this, I'm going to go away for a while and I'll make a new album for everybody."
Earlier in the day, BST Hyde Park welcomed an eclectic supporting bill led by Conan Gray, who brought tracks from his Wishbone World Tour to London after being personally invited by Capaldi. Indie favourites The Vaccines also delivered a crowd-pleasing set featuring classics including "Wetsuit," "Teenage Icon" and "All My Friends Are Falling In Love."
Elsewhere, Mercury Prize nominee Jacob Alon captivated the Great Oak Stage with selections from acclaimed debut album In Limerence, while rising singer-songwriter Absolutely showcased material from her latest record Paracosm.
Across the festival's other stages, standout performances came from Nieve Ella, Tyler Ballgame, Neckbreakers, Benjamin Steer, Kerr Mercer, Luz, Luke La Volpe and Sebastian Croft, highlighting BST Hyde Park's continued commitment to championing the next generation of emerging artists alongside global headliners.
With another sold-out Hyde Park triumph under his belt—and a second headline performance still to come—Lewis Capaldi once again proved why he remains one of Britain's most beloved live performers, delivering a night of humour, vulnerability and unforgettable singalongs that will stand among the defining moments of BST Hyde Park 2026.
