Kenzo Jae Announces New Mixtape Sloth, Shares New Single ' A Right to lose’

Bradford storyteller and boundary-pushing multi-hyphenate kenzo jae has announced details of his sophomore mixtape Sloth, arriving Friday 17th July via Launchpad+ and EMI North. Marking the news, he also shares new single ‘a right to lose’ — a warm, introspective cut that opens the next chapter in his increasingly ambitious creative universe.
Produced largely alongside fellow Bradford artist-producer Karrtii and written across multiple cities over the past year, Sloth arrives as the fourth instalment in an expansive six-part narrative kenzo has been building since his teens — a world where music, screenplay writing and cinematic storytelling collide. The title works as both an abbreviation for Slow Life On The Hill and the name of the project’s central protagonist: a man trying to find his way home with no phone, no money and no car, unaware the world is ending behind him.
While carrying the looseness and experimentation of a mixtape, Sloth unfolds like a soundtrack to an imagined film, each track operating as a scene inside a wider story. Expanding beyond the raw immediacy of debut mixtape Sabretooth, the project pulls from widescreen electronic textures and theatrical 1980s references — from Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds to Queen — while retaining the shape-shifting creative energy associated with artists like Childish Gambino, Tyler, The Creator and Kevin Abstract.
New single ‘a right to lose’ offers a first glimpse into that world. Beginning in hazy lo-fi territory before opening into an infectious hook, the track balances diary-like introspection with understated groove, as kenzo reflects on failure, self-perception and the hard-won acceptance that losing can be part of growth.
“I’m a really competitive person in everything I do, from music down to Monopoly,” kenzo explains. “It drives me, but when I lose it can send my head west and I take it harder than I should. ‘A Right to Lose’ is me talking to myself, trying to calm that part down and accept that not everything’s going to go your way. It’s just me learning to sit with it and realise losing doesn’t mean you’re done, it’s part of it.”
Raised in Bradford and informed by his Persian, Kittician and British heritage, kenzo continues to carve out a singular lane where rap, world-building and visual storytelling move as one. Sloth follows a breakthrough run for the 22-year-old, including a standout performance at Bradford 2025’s opening ceremony, an appearance at BBC Contains Strong Language, and growing support from tastemakers including DIY, Clash and BBC Introducing.
Alongside the mixtape announcement, kenzo has also confirmed a UK headline tour for October, following a debut appearance at The Great Escape this May.
With Sloth, kenzo jae looks set to push his world even further — more cinematic, more expansive and more fearless than ever.
