Glasgow’s most unpredictable art-punk export, Water Machine, have just unleashed their debut album God Park via FatCat Records — and it’s as chaotic, charming, and gloriously genre-defiant as fans could’ve hoped.
Bursting out of the Glasgow underground in 2022, the band have built a cult following with their offbeat blend of jangly punk, bubblegum pop, and sharp-tongued social commentary. Now, God Park captures that anarchic magic in full technicolour — from the rabid riffage of “Junction” to the bittersweet swoon of “Tiffany” and the surreal chaos of closer “Hando.” Accompanying the release is a new video for “Hot Real Estate” — a standout track that perfectly encapsulates Water Machine’s sly wit and rickety energy.
With nods to Glasgow indie legends like The Pastels, The Vaselines, and Postcard Records, as well as wild swings into country, garage, Tropicalia, and noise rock, God Park is anything but predictable. Think: Sonic Youth via The Shangri-Las, or Beat Happening doing karaoke with The Clash.
Water Machine’s lyrics serve up “realistic escapism,” turning tales of housing crises, office crushes, and rabies outbreaks into hyperactive punk-poetry. It’s witty, weird, and unexpectedly poignant.
Catch them live on 20th June at The Old Hairdressers, Glasgow – tickets available now.
