War Child has announced the 30th anniversary re-release of HELP, the landmark 1995 charity album that raised over £1.25 million for children affected by the Bosnian conflict. Out 17th October, the new edition arrives as a limited, numbered 7” box set featuring 10 records, plus exclusive never-before-seen Abbey Road session photos by Lawrence Watson.
First mastered by Brian Eno and wrapped in artwork by John Squire, HELP brought together an unmatched lineup: Oasis, Blur, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Portishead, Suede, The Stone Roses, Manic Street Preachers, Sinéad O’Connor, and The Smokin’ Mojo Filters (Paul McCartney, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher), among many others.
Recorded in just one day, the album has since been hailed as “the best charity album ever made” (Q Magazine), setting a benchmark no project has equalled. Thirty years on, the urgency of War Child’s mission has only grown. In 1995, 10% of the world’s children lived in conflict zones. Today, it’s nearly 19%. War Child now works in 14 countries including Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine, delivering emergency aid, education, and psychological support to children whose lives have been torn apart by war.
Geoffrey Watson, CEO of War Child UK, said: “HELP showed the power of music to change lives. Thirty years later, its message is just as vital. This re-release isn’t just about celebrating the past—it’s about continuing to fight for a safe future for children living through conflict today.”
