This Is The Deep announce ambitious debut album alongside kaleidoscopic new single 'I'm Making'

London collective This Is The Deep have unveiled plans for their long-awaited debut album, Everything (Dick Herman, The Whale and The End Of The Beginning), arriving 11th November via 5dB Records, alongside the release of expansive new single 'I'm Making'.

A vivid introduction to the band's ambitious world, 'I'm Making' twists together post-punk propulsion, chamber-pop elegance and psychedelic flourishes into something wholly unpredictable. Self-produced with additional work from SHOLTO, David Bardon and Patrick Fitzroy (Katy J Pearson, Sorry), the track moves effortlessly between intricate string arrangements, jagged rhythms and cinematic textures, showcasing a collective unafraid to blur genre boundaries.

Speaking about the single, bandleader Ranald Macdonald says: "I'm Making explores the idea that life is more creative than we think. We make many things we don't even realise: journeys, conversations, faces, spaces and ultimately our own realities."

The single offers the first substantial glimpse into Everything (Dick Herman, The Whale and The End Of The Beginning), an imaginative concept record that follows office worker Dick Herman as he slips from reality into an increasingly surreal dreamscape populated by mythical figures, strange encounters and a colossal whale whose endless appetite becomes an allegory for modern excess. Part ecological fable, part satire and part fever dream, the album promises one of the year's most inventive listening experiences.

Founded by visual artist and musician Ranny Macdonald, This Is The Deep exist somewhere between indie band, theatre company and multidisciplinary art collective. Drawing inspiration from The Beach Boys, Black Country, New Road, Roxy Music and The Beatles, while borrowing the surreal visual language of Terry Gilliam, Studio Ghibli and The Mighty Boosh, the group have built a reputation for creating immersive worlds where folk, orchestral pop, art-rock and psychedelia collide.

That vision extends beyond the recordings. Upcoming live performances will transform the album into a theatrical spectacle complete with inflatable whales, painted sets, dancers and immersive stage design, blurring the line between concert, installation and performance art.
