London trio bumb make a striking statement with their debut single excuse, our Tune of the Day and an ambitious introduction to the band's bold new chapter.
Blending avant-garde pop sensibilities with cinematic indie-rock flourishes, excuse is a track that feels both deeply personal and grand in scale. Euphoric orchestral textures swell beneath introspective lyricism, creating a captivating soundtrack to love, regret and emotional paralysis.
At its core, excuse explores the difficult reality of remaining in a relationship long after it's begun to unravel, simply to preserve the memory of what it once was. It's a theme many will recognise, delivered with unflinching honesty and emotional weight.
"The track sounds like the weight of overthinking every emotional decision, trying to find clarity in a situation where there really isn't a right answer," explains vocalist, songwriter and producer George Rose. "Its scale and intensity reflect how heavy those choices can become and how they continue to stay with you long after the moment has passed."
Recorded at The Crypt Studios in Crouch End and mastered by Abbey Road's Christian Wright — whose impressive credits include Fontaines D.C., Wunderhorse and Radiohead — the single boasts a rich, immersive sound that sits comfortably between alternative pop and indie rock. Fans of The 1975, Arcade Fire, Parcels and David Bowie will find plenty to admire, though bumb's voice remains distinctly their own.
For those familiar with the band's previous bedroom-pop output, excuse signals a significant evolution. The London outfit have refined their sound without sacrificing the emotional authenticity that first earned them praise from the likes of Gigwise and Official Charts.
With sold-out London headline shows already under their belt and a busy festival season ahead, bumb are building serious momentum. If excuse is anything to go by, 2026 could be the year they break through in a big way.
