Sunflower Thieves New EP Explores Self-Discovery And Growth

Sunflower Thieves have shared their new EP ‘Someone To Be There For’ which is released with their latest single and video for ‘Grown Out Of You’. The EP will be released on vinyl via Leeds-based label ‘Come Play With Me’ and will include an exclusive bonus track, ‘Birthday’ (pre-order available - here).

The EP sees Sunflower Thieves exploring themes of self-discovery and growth, navigating and reflecting on the past as well as looking towards the future as they touch upon friendship, relationships, personal growth, and loss along the way. All of which is delivered by the duo in their unique way as they release a body of work that is all at once warming, reflective, honest, and authentic.

Speaking on ‘Someone To Be There For’, Sunflower Thieves said, “We’ve both had a lot of change happen in our lives over the last few years, and this was a recurring theme throughout the writing sessions that birthed these songs. We touch on friendship, loss, relationship breakdowns, personal strength and growth. An additional overriding theme is collaboration - we have loved working with so many wonderful creative friends on videos and photos for each release”

Released with the EP is focus track, ‘Grown Out Of You’ which is the duo’s latest track offering, inspired by the nostalgia and curiosity of returning home and seeing their childhood friends moving on with their lives, in a different direction and being happy for them from a distance.

The childhood nostalgia of the track is brought to life as the duo feature in the accompanying visual set at a village hall kids’ party where they are seen to be disconnected from the other party guests who are enjoying traditional party games. The video concludes with Sunflower Thieves accepting that they’ve grown out of their past friendships which means they can find contentment and happiness for their friends from a distance.

Speaking on the new track, the duo added “You forget life goes on while you’re away but when you come back expecting things to have remained, it’s bittersweet but also easy to accept that things have changed and that you’ve grown apart from those you once knew so well.”

Sunflower Thieves are a strong soulful sisterhood, nurturing a sound through ethereal vocal harmonies and honest lyrics to soothe the mind. Rooted in authenticity, the duo, who are childhood friends, have grown organically with a DIY work ethic; starting with performances at open-mic nights and BBC Introducing Sessions, to having been included in Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent longlist for 2020. In 2022, the band gained further ground with their tracks, ‘I Don’t Know Why’ being played on BBC Radio 1 and ‘Lichtenberg Figures’ by revered UK tastemaker, Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music.

In April 2022, the duo will be supporting Lewis Watson on his UK tour as well as appearing at The Roundhouse Rising Presents on 5 May.

The Leeds-based duo are exciting ones to watch in 2022 and beyond as they continue creating their own brand of dream-folk tracks which radiate the warmth of their message.
