Ruby puts a toxic relationship on trial with new EP Verdict

Ruby is turning heartbreak into evidence.

The indie-rock singer-songwriter has released her new seven-track EP Verdict, a courtroom-style dissection of a toxic relationship that leaves the final judgement firmly in the listener’s hands.

Opening with ‘Court in Session’, Ruby builds her case through betrayal, anger, doubt and resentment, before eventually arriving at acceptance. Each track becomes another piece of evidence, with Ruby cast as both witness and defendant.

“I present my evidence to you, the public,” Ruby explains. “Once you've listened to the entire EP, it's your decision, am I guilty or not guilty?”

Musically, Verdict leans into guitars, atmospheric production and sharp, emotionally direct songwriting. ‘Judge and Jury’ kicks proceedings off with punchy pop-rock energy, while ‘Kasey’ takes a more haunting and vulnerable turn. ‘Wrong Guy’ captures the familiar pull of an ex you know you shouldn't return to, before ‘Body Double’ delivers a faster, more playful dose of bitterness.

There’s plenty of bite here, but Ruby isn't interested in making heartbreak entirely miserable. ‘Elastic Dreams’ brings a sense of perspective before the closing title track leaves the jury — that’s you — to make the final call.

Released via APOLLO Distribution, Verdict is Ruby at her most unfiltered: messy, funny, angry and painfully honest.
