Montell Fish is pushing his creativity further into the unknown with his dj gummy bear alter ego, today announcing details of a forthcoming mixtape The Spirit Still Remains (Purgatory), set for release on October 31st.
To mark the announcement, dj gummy bear has dropped a brand new single, “Ostentatious”, featuring London rapper John Glacier. The track is a shimmering, transportive dance cut, weaving together Montell’s airy, tender vocals with Glacier’s smooth, understated flow. Directed by Jared Hogan, the accompanying video captures the eerie afterglow of a party’s end, starring both artists.
First teased earlier this year, Purgatory serves as a sandbox for Montell to embrace experimentation, traversing electronic, house, ambient, and left-field textures beyond the boundaries of his signature alternative R&B. “‘Purgatory’ refers to the space in between… the liminal, the state of limbo someone feels when going through transitionary periods, or when someone is stuck between heaven and hell in a religion,” he explains. “It’s the place where dj gummy bear lives.”
The announcement follows a prolific 2025 run from Montell, which has seen him experiment across genres — from dance (“i saw you in my dream”), to trap (“Same Shit” with Murda Beatz and BKTHERULA), to stripped-back acoustic work (Days Are Getting Shorter). This summer, he wrapped a sold-out headline run across Europe and Australia alongside key festival dates worldwide.
With Purgatory, dj gummy bear signals the next stage of that restless exploration — a project without borders, existing entirely in-between.
The Spirit Still Remains (Purgatory) arrives October 31st.
