London-based alt-pop artist Maella returns with “Crying To God”, a striking new single that transforms intense, all-consuming emotion into a bold and confessional pop moment. Blending Slavic melancholy with the edge of London’s underground scene, the track offers another glimpse into her forthcoming EP Nostalgic Baby, set for release in June 2026.
Written and produced in her home studio, with additional production from Steven Ansell (Blood Red Shoes), “Crying To God” pairs haunting, intimate vocals with a soft drum & bass pulse. The result is a track that feels both delicate and urgent—mirroring the emotional contradiction at its core.
At the heart of the song is a feeling many recognise but rarely articulate: the overwhelming intensity of a crush that borders on devotion. Built on confessional lyrics and aching melodies, Maella explores the blurred line between vulnerability and obsession, where love feels both sacred and destructive.
Speaking on the track, she describes it as capturing a “teenage-like crush… so dramatic it almost feels spiritual,” with the discovery of a drum & bass rhythm giving the song its heartbeat—an emotional urgency that echoes the physical rush of falling for someone.
The single continues a strong run for Maella, who has steadily built momentum through releases and live performances across London, including regular appearances at The Windmill Brixton. Her rise has been marked by an Emerging Artist of the Year nomination at Eurosonic (ESNS), alongside support from BBC Introducing London, Wonderland, and EARMILK, as well as major Spotify editorial playlists.
With over 3 million streams to her name and sync placements across Netflix titles including Geek Girl, Love Is Blind (US) and Temptation Island (US), Maella is carving out a distinct space in alt-pop—one rooted in emotional honesty and atmospheric sound design.
On “Crying To God”, she leans fully into that identity, turning longing into something cinematic, intimate, and impossible to ignore—setting the tone for what’s to come on Nostalgic Baby.
