Rooted in nature, textile art, and sound healing, Jaixia is a multidisciplinary artist weaving emotion into every thread of her work. Her upcoming single, All My Love to You — released via Mahogany Songs on October 6th — sees her collaborate with producer Levi Yarde (kwn, Stormzy) on an ethereal soundscape that shimmers with tenderness and self-liberation.
“Though at first glance it may appear as a love song, All My Love to You is actually about letting someone go with love, and ultimately finding strength in yourself,” Jaixia says. “I had to force myself out of the all-too-familiar ‘daydream territory’ that comes with imagining your life with someone, in order to stand tall, speak up and be proud of every version of myself.”
Following the success of Somebody for Everybody and Light is What You Are (Fairy Song), Jaixia continues to expand her practice across sound, textile, and performance — crafting multi-sensory experiences that blur the boundaries between art and healing. Ahead of her upcoming single and music video (out October 13th), BabyStep spoke to Jaixia about creative balance, botanical storytelling, and finding freedom through love.
Your work spans music, textile, and sound healing. How do these different mediums inform each other when creating a project like With All My Love To You?
I always like to think of things in a multi-sensory way, especially in the conception phase. It's fun to fully immerse myself in the world of what I am creating. I see music, textiles and sound healing as different layers of my storytelling. With All My Love to You is a song about letting go with love – meditation and vibrational frequency (specifically 528Hz) was a part of my process for getting into that writing and recording state – the healing intention behind a song is very sacred to me. I think my fascination with textiles informed the visual aesthetics and feel for the song’s music video I directed. I loved the metaphor of wearing a cascading white cotton dress to capture the flowing movements and emotion of the track. Coincidentally, I found the perfect garment the day before filming while travelling in Bali.
You started writing songs at 12 as a way to “flip the narrative.” How has that approach evolved in your music today, especially in this latest release?
My approach has always been to turn negatives into positives, something my mother instilled in me from a young age. I think All My Love to You is the perfect example of that sentiment. It can be quite a sad thing to realise that something or someone is no longer serving you, and to let go of the potential of what could be. I chose to reframe that idea, with the resounding message being to, “stand tall, speak up and be proud of every version (of you).”
Your live shows merge concert and sound healing into communal experiences. What does it feel like when your audience connects with both the music and the therapeutic aspects of your performance?
I think something clicked for me when I discovered I could merge the two. I have always been moved by the transportive and healing potential of music – I think that my audience are drawn to that potential also. It’s beautiful to come together in a live setting to listen and connect in such a conscious and intentional way.
Eco-printing and hand-dyed botanical textiles play a big role in your visual storytelling. How do you decide which plants, colors, or patterns resonate with the mood or message of a song?
I’m often listening to music, frequency or stories when creating in my art studio. I think it naturally gets me into a flow state that allows things to unfold with ease. I try not to force any one design too much, and allow myself to dance with that wave of creation. I am always in awe of the final outcome, I like to see it as the plant's true aura being revealed… The plant dye colours are often very different than what you may first see or expect. It’s similar to the way a song unfolds for me sometimes.
TikTok helped you reach a global audience, yet your work is deeply intimate and immersive. How do you balance the viral nature of social media with the personal, reflective experiences you create in person?
For me everything starts from a place of introspection. I’ve always treasured time for daydreaming. I think social media can be a tool for amplifying ideas and attracting likeminded community, which I have been blessed to find on my journey. I am grateful that it has led me to create these intimate tailored live experiences. There is something so special and fulfilling about connecting in person.
