Jaco Jaco—the kaleidoscopic psych-pop project of Philadelphia-based musician and visual artist Jacob Theriot—returns with news of a brand new album, On the Levee, set for release on 10 July. Alongside the announcement, Theriot shares the record’s lead single, “Levee,” a groove-laden introduction to his latest sonic chapter.
Blending funk, psychedelic pop, and hazy ’70s AM rock, Jaco Jaco has steadily carved out a distinctive space in the indie landscape. With On the Levee, Theriot continues to refine that sound—melding fluid, genre-hopping arrangements with introspective and often abstract lyricism.
The new single “Levee” captures the heart of the record’s themes: endurance, change, and finding peace amid life’s constant motion. Built around a warm, rhythmic pulse, the track pairs laid-back grooves with reflective undertones. As Theriot explains, the song is “about the weight of staying put and being okay with it while the people and the world around you change… that short moment of mental clarity and peace, knowing the pendulum can’t help but swing.”
Written and produced by Theriot, with co-production from longtime collaborator Chad Copelin, “Levee” expands the vivid, slightly surreal world that defines Jaco Jaco—playful and colourful on the surface, yet grounded in thoughtful reflection.
Following his 2024 debut Splat and 2025’s Gremlin—which drew praise from the likes of KEXP, NPR Music, and The Needle Drop—On the Levee continues a prolific creative streak. Much of the material was written in a concentrated burst and recorded largely by Theriot himself in Philadelphia, capturing both spontaneity and meticulous attention to detail.
With its rich textures, groove-forward sensibilities, and quietly philosophical core, On the Levee positions Jaco Jaco as one of indie pop’s most inventive emerging voices—effortlessly balancing playful experimentation with emotional depth.
