London indie songwriter Charlie Vaughan is back with a vibrant new cut, unveiling his latest single “Don’t Wanna Drive”—a hazy, hook-filled slice of guitar pop that arrives just in time for a run of April live dates.
Fresh from supporting the likes of The Backseat Lovers and Hamilton Leithauser, Vaughan continues to build momentum with a track that blends classic songwriting instincts with a loose, DIY charm. “Don’t Wanna Drive” leans into dreamy melodies, punchy rhythms and psych-tinged vocals, striking a balance between laid-back nostalgia and forward motion.
Originally written as something “dreamy and simple,” the track took on new life on the road. As Vaughan explains, it evolved into a faster, more urgent version, driven by live energy and a spontaneous moment in rehearsal that shaped its standout ending—proof of his instinctive, collaborative approach to making music.
Accompanying the release is a kaleidoscopic new video, premiered via God Is In The TV, which plays like a surreal British seaside fever dream—think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas reimagined in Margate or Blackpool. It’s a fitting visual counterpart to Vaughan’s off-kilter storytelling and nostalgic sonic palette.
The single lands alongside a trio of UK shows this April, including a headline release party at London’s Paper Dress Vintage and support slots with FEET in Birmingham and Milton Keynes. With early praise calling his work “infectious” and rich in both charm and social commentary, “Don’t Wanna Drive” sees Charlie Vaughan firmly in his stride—crafting timeless indie pop with a distinctly modern edge.
