The Copenhagen-based Danish-Algerian artist explores nostalgia, nonlinear time and the beauty of finding your own rhythm on her forthcoming six-track EP, due March 2027 via BIG OIL Recording Company.

Danish-Algerian artist Zoumer is back with “Round and round”, a hazy, hypnotic new single that marks the beginning of her next chapter. The track leads the announcement of her forthcoming EP, Life Delay, set for release in March 2027 via BIG OIL Recording Company.

The project follows e.a.l. (euro arab lovergirl), Zoumer’s acclaimed second album, which arrived in March 2026 and earned praise from Pitchfork, The Line of Best Fit, GAFFA and Dazed. Now, the Copenhagen-based artist is turning her attention to the spaces between memory and reality, finding beauty in the moments that refuse to move in a straight line.

Recorded alongside drummer Daniel Zakaria Shooshtari and co-producer SATNAV, “Round and round” sees Zoumer lean further into live instrumentation, weaving plucked guitars, soft-rock textures and airy vocal layers into her experimental pop sound. Featuring a contribution from mishmish, the track takes inspiration from Lebanese icon Fairuz’s “El Ouda Mensiye” (“The Forgotten Room”), drawing on its sense of nostalgia and liberation to explore how the past can remain startlingly close to the present.

For Zoumer, whose real name is Yasmina Derradj, music has always been a space for constructing characters, alternate realities and intimate fictional worlds. Her latest work continues that approach, building on the imagined personas of e.a.l. (euro arab lovergirl) while pushing towards something softer, more reflective and sonically expansive.

“I wanted to explore new ways of sharing my songs, especially after I started co-producing and discovered how much I enjoyed it,” Derradj explains. “I thought it would be fun to collaborate with artists I could imagine co-inhabiting the same musical universe as a particular song with.”

Across its six tracks, Life Delay explores what it means to move through life on your own timeline. Set against the imagined backdrop of a park, the EP inhabits a world of humid air, cool shadows and half-finished puzzles, where restlessness gives way to stillness and nostalgia becomes a source of freedom rather than regret. Its title captures the feeling of arriving at life a little later than everyone else — and the liberating realisation that there is no universal schedule to follow.

A recurring spiral motif runs through the record, reflecting the way we revisit people, places and emotions with a different understanding each time. Drawing on everything from drum machines and field recordings to live drums, guitars and minimal melodic arrangements, Zoumer creates music designed for solitary journeys, long train rides and moments of quiet reflection.

It’s a fitting next step for an artist whose work thrives on the collision of the personal and the fantastical. Named after 19th-century Algerian freedom fighter Lalla Fatma N’Soumer, Zoumer’s project has consistently blurred the boundaries between experimental sound, pop and storytelling. Her debut album, Green World, arrived in 2024 alongside an audiovisual exhibition of the same name, while her practice has also extended into visual art, earning her a solo prize at Charlottenborg’s Spring Exhibition in 2023.

With Life Delay, Zoumer is embracing the beauty of taking the long way around. “Round and round” is the first step into that world: a dreamy, quietly affecting reminder that sometimes moving forward means allowing yourself to circle back.
