You’re One Call Away From Free Wings — But Will Your Mate Pick Up?

Huge crowds descended on Manchester this week as Wingstop and Deliveroo teamed up to launch Do Me A Flavour — a playful, phone-booth pop-up challenging Gen Z to do the unthinkable: actually make a call.

Built around one simple question — if you had one chance to call someone guaranteed to pick up to win free wings, who would it be? — the activation put modern friendship habits to the test. Inspired by a new stat revealing that over 60% of Gen Z would rather text than answer an unexpected call, hundreds of students stepped inside the giant booth to dial a trusted mate, with free Wingstop on the line.

Hosted by AJ Shabeel of Beta Squad, the event saw queues wrap around the block — but not everyone walked away satisfied. More than half of calls reportedly went unanswered, leaving hopeful participants both disappointed and hungry.

The Do Me A Flavour booth popped up at University of Manchester before heading to Leeds Beckett University, turning campus culture into a live social experiment — and sparking plenty of conversation around connection, courage and checking in on friends.

Beyond the wings, the activation carried a deeper message: take initiative, reach out, and don’t be afraid to pick up the phone. In a world of unread messages and muted notifications, Deliveroo Students and Wingstop reframed the call as something fun, communal and rewarding — proving that sometimes, all it takes is one brave ring.

Students who took part also unlocked ongoing perks via Deliveroo Students, including free delivery and exclusive Wingstop discounts — but for many, the real win was reconnecting, one call at a time.
