Australian rap disruptor YNG Martyr is back with “MILKSHAKES” (out Nov 14), a razor-sharp reimagining of Kelis’ 2000s classic that blasts nostalgia straight into the underground. With more than 350 million global streams to his name, YNG continues to prove why he’s one of Australia’s most inventive exports — twisting the original’s sugary hook into something dark, gritty and Detroit-drum heavy.
Born in Townsville and raised on SoundCloud oddities, YNG has carved out a sound that fuses jerk, rage and new-wave rap with the lyrical grit of Mac Miller and Earl Sweatshirt. That hybrid identity takes centre stage on “MILKSHAKES”, a track he describes as essentially a freestyle, sparked by a late-night walk to 7-Eleven in LA. “As soon as the doors slid open, ‘Milkshake’ started playing,” he says. “We just looked at each other like, ‘Yeah, that’s the one.’”
The release caps off a huge run for the rising rapper. He’s toured globally with Iann Dior and DC the Don, played Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, and SXSW, and even penned WWE star Logan Paul’s entrance theme “Still Humble”.
Bold, unfiltered and built for chaos, “MILKSHAKES” pushes YNG Martyr further into his own lane — one where nostalgia hits harder, hooks snarl louder, and nothing stays sacred for long.
“MILKSHAKES” is out everywhere November 14.
