La Luz, the brainchild of Shana Cleveland, has just announced the release of their eagerly anticipated album, News of the Universe, set to drop on May 24th via Sub Pop.
Adopting a credo inspired by the visionary words of science fiction author Octavia E. Butler, La Luz's latest offering promises to be deliver. The album's title, drawn from a collection of metaphysical poetry, hints at the band's penchant for weaving profound themes into their music.
But News of the Universe is more than just an album—it's a testament to resilience in the face of adversity. Guitarist and songwriter Shana Cleveland confronts a changing world with unwavering love, even as she grapples with the aftermath of a breast cancer diagnosis just two years after welcoming her son into the world. Today, La Luz unveils "Strange World," the lead single from their forthcoming album. being BabyStep's Tune Of The Day. In this hauntingly beautiful track, Cleveland muses on the tumultuous nature of existence and the struggle to find solace amidst chaos. Reflecting on her own experiences, she shares, "The best advice a friend gave me... was to go outside, take my shoes off, and sit with my feet on the earth. This chorus is something of a mantra to myself 'we’ll be fine, just take your time.'"
Accompanying the release is a mesmerizing music video shot by Vanessa Pla, featuring Cleveland pedaling through a surreal landscape, delivering the La Luz Observer newspaper bearing the headline "News of the Universe."
