The Falls Look Back, Move Forward and Make Every Moment Count on Would You Do It All Over Again?

Three years can change a lot. For Manchester four-piece The Falls, it’s brought management, a record deal, their first tour and more than 100,000 streams for their debut EP Viva La Falls. Now, they’re taking stock with their second studio EP, Would You Do It All Over Again?

Arriving September 18 via Revo Pro, the five-track release captures a band growing up without losing the raw immediacy that first put them on the radar. Moving between uncertainty, frustration, consequence and optimism, the EP brings together newer material with songs that have been part of The Falls’ story for much longer — including a re-recorded Loaded Gun.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Luke Owens, the EP draws a deliberate emotional arc from Open Fire and The Other Side through the darker territory of Loaded Gun, before City Lights and Blink look towards new beginnings.

It’s a record about change, but also about making sure you actually stop to appreciate it.

With Blink closing on the reminder that life can disappear in an instant, The Falls are heading into their next chapter with plenty to look forward to — including an extensive UK headline tour and their first European dates in Italy.

We caught up with The Falls to talk about the making of Would You Do It All Over Again?, growing up as a band, the influence of The Departed, and why they’re determined to enjoy every second of what comes next.

1. The EP moves from uncertainty and frustration towards acceptance and optimism. Did you know from the beginning that you wanted Would You Do It All Over Again? to tell that kind of emotional story, or did the arc emerge as the songs came together?

We went into the EP with a sort of formula like "we need some heavy tracks again, but we should include some softer ones too". We also rerecorded Loaded Gun and recorded a couple of songs that we'd written much earlier into our career, so it all sort of fell into place really nicely.

We made sure to order the songs in a way that would portray that type of journey, and I suppose the songs themselves are a bit of a journey as well because we've got some older songs and some newer written songs in there too.

2. “Blink” closes the EP with the idea that life can pass you by in an instant. What made that theme feel particularly important to you at this point in the band’s journey?

3 years has flown by, we've been through a lot in the past year with signing onto management, signing a record deal, sorting our first tour. It's been a crazy ride for sure. It's important for us to be able to cherish every moment we've got of this. We've got a lot ahead of us, a lot to look forward to, and we've worked hard for it. We don't want it to feel like it's all gonna disappear quickly, we want to spend every day of this tour making memories and just enjoying every moment.

3. “Loaded Gun” takes inspiration from The Departed and deals with the difficulty of escaping your past. What was it about the film that sparked a song, and how did that idea translate into something personal for The Falls?

It was about the transition from being younger and the potential draw from your peers to do things that you might not want to do. The difficulty of making a decision that others may not be happy with - of being forced into a corner and wanting to just hide away from responsibility. The film depicts the decisions some make which can end in disaster and as four teenagers living in Manchester we are potentially faced with this - pressure from friends to do one thing and pressure from family to do something else. What decision is right - it could be a loaded gun ready to fire.

4. Your debut EP has now passed 100,000 streams and picked up early Radio X support. Has that momentum changed the way you approach writing and recording, or are you still chasing the same immediacy that defined the band at the start?

Usually when we write it just comes naturally and we don't really aim for anything specific. With this EP and the new stuff we are currently working on, every song is completely different from the last and we are just really excited to see what people think with every release.

5. You’re heading out on an extensive UK headline tour before playing your first European dates in Italy. What are you most excited to discover about The Falls when these songs leave the studio and become part of a live set?

We've been playing these songs loads before they were released or recorded. We've had a lot of good reception for them and so we hope when the EP fully releases even more people will love the songs. If there's one thing we think will come from the tour, it'll probably be a closer connection between us as band members. We're going all over the place, there'll be loads of late night drives, staying over in places, even going abroad together. It'll be a lot of time stuck with each other, but I think we'll be just fine. We don't hate each other just yet lol.
