MARIANNE Unravels Toxic Love on Haunting New Single ‘Hiding in Plain Sight’

MARIANNE is confronting the moment you finally realise the relationship you’ve been trying to hold onto is the thing holding you back.

The London-based French-English indie pop artist returns with her cinematic new single Hiding in Plain Sight, a haunting exploration of toxic dependency, all-consuming attachment and the difficult process of seeing a relationship for what it really is.

Opening with sparse piano and MARIANNE’s ethereal vocals, the track wastes no time creating an atmosphere of unease. There’s intimacy to the production, but also a sense of suffocation — perfectly matching lyrics centred on a love that has become increasingly difficult to escape.

Inspired by the likes of London Grammar and Lorde, Hiding in Plain Sight sits between confessional indie pop and widescreen atmospheric pop. Rather than chasing a huge chorus for impact, MARIANNE lets the tension build, giving the song a cinematic quality that makes its emotional reckoning hit harder.

At its heart, the single is about recognition. The title says it all: sometimes the warning signs aren’t hidden at all — we’re simply not ready to look directly at them.

For MARIANNE, storytelling has always been central to her creative world. A songwriter and actor who has been writing music since she was 10, she brings a distinctly introspective edge to her work, pairing soaring melodies with deeply personal lyrics.

With previous support from BBC Introducing Kent and a growing audience behind her, Hiding in Plain Sight feels like a significant step forward — mysterious, vulnerable and unmistakably self-assured.

MARIANNE isn’t hiding anymore.
