The Boxer Rebellion confront modern life’s ‘carousel of envy’ on new single ‘Satellite Above’

Transatlantic indie rock outfit The Boxer Rebellion return with “Satellite Above,” a striking new single that takes aim at the pressures and distractions of hyper-connected modern life. The track is the latest preview of their forthcoming seventh studio album The Second I’m Asleep, set for release March 27, 2026 via Absentee Recordings.

Built around sleek bass grooves and expansive, glassy hooks, “Satellite Above” channels the band’s signature atmospheric sound while tackling the psychological toll of constant observation in the digital age. Frontman Nathan Nicholson delivers a reflective lyric that explores how comparison, distraction and online visibility shape modern identity.

Nicholson describes the track as a reflection on contemporary life under perpetual surveillance: “We’re constantly monitored, observed, and living for the curiosity and entertainment of others… trapped in a never-ending carousel of envy as we measure our lives against others.”

The single follows earlier album cuts “Hidden Meanings” and “Flowers in the Water,” which reintroduced the band’s emotionally charged sound ahead of their first studio album in six years. Across The Second I’m Asleep, the quartet — Nicholson, Adam Harrison, Piers Hewitt and Andrew Smith — explore themes of self-reflection, sensory overload and existential stillness, pairing intimate songwriting with sweeping, cinematic production.

Created during an intense and instinct-driven writing period, the record was shaped alongside studio engineers Rees Broomfield, Billy Bush and Kevin Grainger, resulting in a sonic palette that balances expansive rock dynamics with moments of quiet vulnerability.

The band will take the new material on the road this March with a run of UK and European headline shows, culminating in a hometown performance at Brixton Electric during album release week. Due to an injury to guitarist Andrew Smith, Charlie Barnes of Bastille will join the tour as a temporary stand-in.

Since forming in 2001, The Boxer Rebellion have built a fiercely independent career, earning acclaim for their cinematic songwriting and early embrace of self-releasing music. Their songs have frequently appeared across film and television, while their return to live performance following a brief hiatus has proven their enduring appeal — including a sold-out show at KOKO and a performance to 50,000 fans at Pinkpop Festival last summer.

With The Second I’m Asleep, the band look set to deliver their most reflective and expansive work yet — soundtracking the uneasy balance between connection and disconnection in the modern world.
