Boomtown levels up with HYDRO XL - The world’s first hydrogen-powered main stage goes supersized

Boomtown is pushing festival innovation into overdrive for 2026 with the launch of HYDRO XL, a hugely expanded, hydrogen-powered main stage set to sit at the heart of Downtown — and it arrives with one of the festival’s boldest electronic line-ups yet.

Following HYDRO’s pioneering debut last year, the stage has grown by 150%, jumping from 8,000 to 20,000 capacity and becoming one of the first UK main stages powered entirely by green hydrogen — a major statement for sustainable festival infrastructure.

But this isn’t just a tech flex. Boomtown has paired the eco leap with a heavyweight programme aimed squarely at the cutting edge of club culture, with Skrillex, Four Tet, Groove Armada, Floating Points, Marlon Hoffstadt and DJ EZ leading a line-up spanning techno, house, garage and bass.

Harder-edged names like Brutalismus 3000 and 999999999 sit alongside future-facing selectors including Sherelle, Folamour and Notion, underlining HYDRO XL’s mission to champion both heritage and the next wave. Set inside the futuristic Metropolis district with a new industrial redesign, HYDRO XL will also host half of Boomtown’s opening and closing ceremonies, embedding the stage into the festival’s immersive narrative as much as its music programming.

Part flagship dance arena, part sustainability prototype, HYDRO XL feels like a defining move for Boomtown’s Chapter 5: Radical Redesign — proving big-stage spectacle and zero-carbon ambition can go hand in hand.

With tickets already sold out and hundreds more artists still to be announced, Boomtown 2026 looks set to be one of its most ambitious editions yet.
