Leeds-based artist Spielmann has released his most political and personal track to date with ‘Blue Passports’, the latest single from his upcoming EP Back By Popular Demand (out 26th September). Known for his acerbic wit and euphoric hooks, Spielmann here strips things back, blending pointed social commentary with confessional storytelling.
“My mum’s German, my dad’s parents were Holocaust refugees, so identity’s always been something curious to me,” he says. “Deep stuff aside, it’s still just a big singalong banger, isn’t it? Makes you sing, makes you smile, makes you think. You’re welcome.”
Recorded at Greenmount Studios in Leeds and mixed by Richard Wilkinson (Adele, Bombay Bicycle Club), the EP builds on recent singles ‘Over It’ and ‘Got To Go To Work’, delivering Spielmann’s signature mix of emotional depth and infectious choruses.
Following standout sets at SXSW London and Deer Shed Festival, Spielmann headlines shows this autumn, including The Eagle Inn (Manchester, 25 Sept), The Attic (Leeds, 27 Sept) and Shacklewell Arms (London, 29 Sept).
