Sofie Royer steps into the spotlight with new single “Actress”

The cinematic new track arrives ahead of her album before/after, out this Friday, as UK, European and US tour dates get underway.
Sofie Royer is ready for her close-up.
The Austrian-Iranian artist has released “Actress”, the latest single from her forthcoming album before/after, out this Friday via Stones Throw. Framing fame, fantasy and relationship drama through the lens of cinema, the track finds Royer playing with the idea of performance — both on-screen and off.
Its accompanying video takes that concept all the way. Directed by Grégoire Léon-Dufour, the visual sees Royer thrust into the spotlight after landing her first film role, with awards-season glamour soon giving way to something more unsettling as fame begins to swallow her sense of self.
Described by Royer as “an anthem for anyone who’s tried to book a role”, “Actress” sits at the centre of before/after — an album where sleek pop hooks, French Touch influences and sharply self-aware songwriting collide. The record sees Royer working with producers Matt Cohn, Jorgen Odegard and Eli Hirsch, while continuing to blur the boundaries between past, future and the versions of ourselves caught somewhere in between.
With before/after landing this week, Royer is also heading out on an extensive run of dates across the UK, Europe and the US, including a London Rough Trade in-store on 17 September.
