RISING NEW ZEALAND ARTIST WILL SWINTON RELEASES MOODY NEW SINGLE “DAYDREAM”

BabyStep Magazine

Auckland's rising singer-songwriter, Will Swinton, unleashes his latest introspective masterpiece, "Daydream," now available for a soul-stirring experience via 10K Projects/Capitol Records. Following the genre-defying success of his EP, "Better Days," the 22-year-old artist showcases his wisdom beyond his years through multi-layered and atmospheric soundscapes that seamlessly blend angst and addictiveness.

"In a daydream, am I stuck on your mind? Gotta day drink, just to keep you off of mine," croons Swinton over chugging, palm-muted guitar, setting the tone for a track that is both meditative and understated. As the chorus hits, he confesses, "‘Cause it’s two-thirty, baby, how’d I waste this night on you? Got me drinking just to wake up with the light on. Truth hurts lately, and I hate it that my mind’s on you." The slow-building anthem delivers an emotional punch, capturing the essence of Swinton's lyricism.

The genesis of "Daydream" lies in a dream itself, as Swinton reveals, “‘Daydream‘ came from a dream that I had. In the dream, I was in a studio session with FINNEAS, and he played me music. He plays it, and it was the melody to ‘Daydream.’ I don’t remember the words exactly, but I made a voice memo of it as soon as I woke up.”

This release marks Swinton's return since dropping his debut EP in October, capping off a whirlwind journey celebrated by Rolling Stone. His independent single, "All For You," climbed the ranks to the Top 10 of the Hot 20 New Zealand Singles Chart in 2022, while tracks like “Better Days,” “Wasted You,” and “Leave In The Morning” secured spots in the Top 15. With over 100 million views on TikTok, collaborations with artists like Claire Rosinkranz, and the admiration of MGK, Swinton has already graced stages globally, from SXSW in Austin, TX, to The Great Escape in Brighton, UK, and Primavera in Barcelona, Spain. Now, with "Daydream," the burgeoning star continues his ascent, crafting anthems that not only hit you in the feels but linger long after the final note.
