Brighton’s indie scene just got a fresh dose of warmth and honesty as Bert returns with his new single “Bump” — a jangly, lo-fi indie-folk gem that feels as comforting as it is quietly devastating.
Out now via APOLLO Distribution, “Bump” leans into raw vulnerability while keeping things melodically rich and irresistibly hooky. Built on layered acoustics and a DIY charm, the track captures Bert at his most unfiltered — imperfections and all — giving the song a lived-in, human feel that cuts through.
At its heart, “Bump” explores self-worth — or the struggle to find it. But rather than sinking into heaviness, Bert wraps the message in warmth and groove. As he puts it: “Bump is for anyone who doesn’t hold themselves in the regard they deserve. It’s warm, chunky and head-bop inducing.” And he’s not wrong — it’s introspective, but still something you can move to.
Fans of early Declan McKenna or Cavetown will feel right at home here, but Bert’s sound stands firmly on its own two feet. There’s a natural intimacy running through the track, likely shaped by his reputation on the Brighton live circuit, where he’s built a following through emotionally direct, close-up performances.
With previous radio support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music, plus sold-out shows across London, Brighton and Leeds, Bert is steadily carving out a space for himself — and “Bump” feels like another confident step forward.
