Maximilian shares 'Soft Song For A Worried Mind' from upcoming EP Diurnals

Brighton’s Maximilian returns with another quietly captivating preview of his upcoming EP Diurnals, sharing the intimate new single “Soft Song For A Worried Mind”, out now (April 8) via Crafting Room Recordings.

Following early praise from tastemakers like Stereogum and BBC 6 Music’s Guy Garvey, the track continues to cement Maximilian’s reputation for crafting miniature folk epics that feel both delicate and expansive. What begins as a soft acoustic meditation gradually blooms into something far richer—layered with sweeping cello and baroque-pop textures, yet never losing its emotional closeness.

There’s something almost otherworldly about the track’s creation, too. Recorded during November’s Super Beaver Moon, “Soft Song For A Worried Mind” carries a kind of hushed, nocturnal magic—equal parts comfort and quiet introspection. As Maximilian puts it, it’s about “vocalising compassion… a love letter from afar,” wrapping itself around the listener like a moment of calm in uncertain times.

The single offers another glimpse into Diurnals, due May 8—a record rooted in warmth, presence, and emotional honesty. Stripping things back to live, organic recordings without a click track, the EP leans into raw performance and human connection, drawing subtle comparisons to the intimacy of Elliott Smith or the rustic beauty of Big Thief.

A key figure in Brighton’s DIY scene, Maximilian has steadily built momentum through collaborations and live shows alongside artists like Naima Bock and Florist. Now, with Diurnals on the horizon, he’s stepping into a new phase—one defined by clarity, community, and a deep sense of feeling.

To celebrate the release, Maximilian will play a run of spring shows, including appearances at The Great Escape and a special hometown headline at Pink Moon in June. With “Soft Song For A Worried Mind,” Maximilian doesn’t just offer a track—he offers a moment of stillness. And right now, that might be exactly what’s needed.
