Long Island Sound on the Tracks That Shaped Their Sound

Dublin-born duo Long Island Sound (Rob Roche and Tim Nolan) have quietly cemented themselves as one of underground electronic music’s most emotionally resonant acts. Known for their euphoric-yet-introspective approach, the pair balance emotion and energy to craft dynamic, dreamy explorations via their own imprint, Signs of Space.

After their acclaimed 2022 debut Lost Connection, described by Resident Advisor as “glorious, heart-tugging sunset techno,” Long Island Sound have steadily built momentum with standout festival sets, sold-out Dublin shows, and heavyweight remix projects—including reinterpretations of Depeche Mode’s My Favorite Stranger and a recent big-room trance rework for Kassian.

2024 saw the release of Hydra, a full-length album supported by BBC Radio 1, along with a captivating live tour hitting venues like London’s iconic fabric. 2025 has continued the streak with headline shows across Europe, Signs of Space label takeovers at UK festivals, and the duo’s latest studio work drawing attention.

Their new single, ‘CV/Gate’, has already been lighting up the studio, earning a Dancefloor Moment nod from Jaguar on BBC Radio 1 in late August. We spoke to Rob and Tim about the tracks that shaped their sound, revealing the inspirations behind their latest release.

Logic1000 - fused

Taken from her recent DJ Kicks album. We were both floored by this one when we heard it. The power of simplicity on show: there’s only about 4 elements, but they’re all used to great effect. We love the constant changing in the tone of the riff, the dynamic vocal processing and use of space.

BDB - L.A.V.A

We’ve taken loads of inspiration lately from the CHROMA series, especially this tune. We have a special love for the BDB project, as we’re big fans of Bicep and Benjamin Damage separately. We were particularly inspired by the vocal layering and processing in this one.Back in 2016, Us Together pointed us in a totally new musical direction. It was after hearing this track that we started exploring the use of drum machines and synths, as opposed to using samples, which we had relied on heavily before.

Supreems - Us Together

Floating Points - Vacuum Boogie

There’s not much left to say on Floating Points. He sampled a vacuum cleaner and ended up with this banger! It just shows that you can be creative with anything. We got a fright when we realised what year this was released…
