Rising Canadian singer-songwriter Laroie (Gab Godon) steps boldly into her next chapter with “Renew,” a luminous electronic-pop release that feels equal parts confession and catharsis. Written as a form of emotional reset, the track explores self-forgiveness, second chances, and the courage it takes to choose yourself.
Arriving after a year of mounting buzz, “Renew” cements Laroie’s place as one of the most compelling new voices in alt-pop. Her breakout single LSD drew international attention — including remixes from Lunice and Retromigration — followed by the sultry club-ready On Time and the emotionally charged Waterfall.
That evolving sound caught the ear of The Guardian, who praised her music as “an evocative blend of R&B and electronic pop that proves Laroie is a formidable force in the Canadian scene.” If “Waterfall” was about surrender, “Renew” is about reclamation.
Created alongside producer Elie Zylberman, the song was born from conversations about touring, distance, and emotional disconnection. Laroie explains:
“We talked about places we had been, and all I could think about was how many of those places had left me feeling empty and lonely. It wasn’t the places — it was that I had slowly lost myself in a relationship that kept me trapped and unfulfilled. This song is me giving myself permission to explore the world again, and to forgive myself for not choosing myself sooner.”
Formerly one half of Heartstreets, Godon has carved a powerful solo path as Laroie, blending downtempo R&B with electronic pop while confronting addiction, temptation, and desire head-on. Her résumé already includes performances at Montreal International Jazz Festival and POP Montreal, headline shows in London and Paris, plus a SOCAN Song of the Year nomination.
With “Renew,” Laroie doesn’t just release a new single — she opens the door to a new era. One defined by clarity, confidence, and creative freedom.
