Lulu’s Mental Health Trust Donates £50,000 to Adfam
Lulu is turning a landmark night at the Royal Albert Hall into lasting support for families affected by substance use, with Lulu’s Mental Health Trust donating £50,000 to Adfam.
The donation comes from the proceeds of Lulu’s special one-off Royal Albert Hall performance in June, which celebrated the extraordinary career of the UK rock ’n’ roll icon — and brought together some seriously starry company.
Having first performed at the legendary venue back in 1967, Lulu returned for a career-spanning set featuring special guests including Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow, Delta Goodrem and Boy George. All profits from the evening went towards Lulu’s Mental Health Trust, which she established while writing her memoir, If Only You Knew, reflecting on the impact of mental health throughout her own life and the lives of those around her.
Now, £50,000 of those proceeds is being passed directly to Adfam, a charity supporting families affected by a loved one’s substance use.
Founded in 1984 by the mother of a heroin user, Adfam has spent more than four decades ensuring that families affected by substance use are heard, supported and given practical help. Its work today spans one-to-one support, information and guidance, practitioner training, research and campaigning, while challenging the stigma surrounding substance use.
For Lulu, the donation is about more than simply writing a cheque. Following her Royal Albert Hall performance, she sat down with five people who have benefited from Adfam’s support, hearing first-hand how the charity has helped them navigate some of the most difficult circumstances in their lives.
Those conversations made the impact of the organisation tangible — and reinforced Lulu’s commitment to supporting meaningful, long-term mental health initiatives.
The donation marks another significant step for Lulu’s Mental Health Trust, which was created with a clear mission: to support organisations and initiatives providing vital mental health support to people who need it most.
And after turning a celebration of six decades in music into a night of giving, Lulu is proving that the biggest legacy of a great performance can sometimes happen long after the final encore.
