Introducing: Tadhg Daly

BabyStep Magazine

Heartfelt alt-pop artist Tadhg Daly artfully captures raw emotions to create profound connections with his audiences. Hailing from Jersey to Irish parents and now based in London, Tadhg's music blends the lyrical intimacy of Alanis Morisette and Jeff Buckley with the vocal intensity of Dermot Kennedy equally inspired by his childhood musical heroes, Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins. We spoke to him in the lead up to of his recently release EP Beautifully Bad. Here is how it went down:

1)Your new EP ‘Beautifully Bad’ is filled with raw emotion and vulnerability. How do you channel personal experiences into your songwriting, and what inspired this particular project?

To be completely honest, throughout creating this whole record I just wrote down exactly how I was feeling about my situation on that day and then figured out ways to put it to music. Its such a literal record in that sense and I think that’s what makes it so emotionally vulnerable.

2. You’ve released singles like ‘How’s Your Day Been?’ and ‘Your Name’ leading up to this EP. How do these tracks connect with the newer songs, ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ and ‘Beautifully Bad,’ to create a cohesive journey?

So, it really is a bit of a concept EP I suppose because if you listen in order it directly follows the story of me falling in love with my partner, Beth. Starting with ‘Hows your day been’ which makes fun of and resists the notion that id caught feelings, before ending with ‘Your Name’ which is about completely giving myself up to the reality that I was in love.

3. You’ve been described as blending indie-pop with an alternative edge. How do you balance these genres to craft a sound that’s both emotionally intimate and musically dynamic?

I don't think I give it too much thought if im honest! I think music is in a place currently in which artists are less bound by genres than ever and I love that! All that I try and do is make sure ia song is both catchy and lyrically meaningful.

4. Performing live is a big part of your artistic identity. What can fans expect from your upcoming headline show at The Waiting Room, especially with the release of this new EP?

What people can expect is a raw and honest performance without too many bells and whistles. I just want the opportunity to show the crowd how much these songs mean to me and hope that they in turn resonate with them.

5. Your music has drawn comparisons to artists like Dermot Kennedy and Jeff Buckley, while also being inspired by Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins. How do these influences shape your creative process and vocal style?

Again, I'm not entirely sure! I am honored to be in any way mentioned alongside those artists but I dont directly try to reference them. Im inspired so much by all the music I love listening to but I wouldnt say it is always reflected in the sound of my songs.
