Manchester/Berlin-based band unveil new single “This Bird Is Flown” ahead of November debut
T.R. Burge & The Temple have announced their debut album, Godache, due November 6, 2026, alongside new single “This Bird Is Flown”, out August 14.
Built across almost a decade between Manchester and Berlin, Godache is a dark, emotionally rich debut shaped by intimate songwriting, slow-burning arrangements and sweeping violin. Drawing on influences including Mark Lanegan, Townes Van Zandt and Elliott Smith, the band create a sound that sits somewhere between Southern Gothic storytelling and the darker edges of alternative rock.
“This Bird Is Flown” began with a vivid dream experienced by frontman T.R. Burge, centred on a woman mourning the loss of someone who had left. The imagery became the foundation for the song, which evolved into one of the album’s more dynamic tracks, moving through contrasting sections rather than settling into a single mood.
Recorded, mixed and produced at Klangbild Studios in Berlin with longtime collaborator Martin J. Fiedler, the album carries the influence of both cities. While the band’s roots lie firmly in Manchester, Berlin became central to the record’s development, with sessions there helping shape the sound and atmosphere of the finished album.
Loss and grief also run beneath much of Godache, with several members of the band experiencing personal loss during the writing and recording process. The result is a record that embraces darkness without remaining there — one that Burge describes as taking the listener “into the Abyss”, while ultimately bringing them back out the other side.
At the heart of the band’s sound is the relationship between Burge’s understated vocals and acoustic guitar and Aninka Rosa’s violin and vocals. Rather than simply accompanying the songs, the violin acts almost as a second voice, adding another emotional layer to the band’s storytelling.
T.R. Burge & The Temple are T.R. Burge (vocals, acoustic guitar), Aninka Rosa (violin, vocals), Pete Leaver (drums) and Frederic Lyenn Jacques (bass, keyboards), who brings more than a decade of experience playing with Mark Lanegan’s Band.
“This Bird Is Flown” is out August 14, with Godache following on November 6.
