Fresh off being named “one of the 5 best sets at Glastonbury 2024” by Wonderland Magazine, Still Pigeon are flying through the UK alt-rock landscape with the momentum of a band who know exactly who they are — and who’s coming with them. What began in Oxford as five mates making noise together has evolved into one of East London’s most energised live communities, where The Flock and the band move as a single, sweat-soaked organism.
With sharp-witted lyricism, brash synth lines, and angular guitars that slice through the chaos, Still Pigeon have carved out a sound that thrives on tension and release. Their rise has been fuelled by support from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 6, Spotify’s Fresh Finds UK, Apple Music, H&M’s in-store playlists, and a run of sold-out headline shows — plus festival stops including The Great Escape, Truck, Wychwood, and multiple Glastonbury sets.
Now, with their next EP on the horizon and a UK headline tour locked in for Spring 2026, the band sit on the cusp of a new era. We caught up with Still Pigeon to talk community, chaos, influences, industry breakthroughs, and what comes next.
Your live shows are known for being chaotic, sweaty celebrations where “The Flock” and the band move as one. How did that sense of community develop, and what do you think makes your shows feel so immersive?
I think we first really noticed a change out the back of the pandemic. A lot of our music before that had to be recorded remotely and the songs built up an online fanbase, but doing our first gigs post-Covid we really saw how much the music resonated with people and it was euphoric. Since then as we’ve continued to grow our core fanbase has stayed loyal, and we try to reward them with a good ol’ messy night at our headline shows (possibly with a bonus stage-dive from Millie).
Wonderland called your Glastonbury 2024 performance one of the best sets of the entire festival. What was going through your minds during that show, and how has Glastonbury shaped the band’s journey?
That was epic! Our first slot came as a real surprise (and guttingly we were only 4 of us), but it was really special to return the next year to the same stage as a whole band, to an even bigger crowd. Not to be all ‘Glastonbury changed our lives’, but…..
Your sound blends alt-rock with left-field pop, shoegaze and brash synths. What artists or scenes influenced you most when crafting that melting-pot aesthetic?
The great thing is we all listen to really different music. We love a lot of bands in our scene like English Teacher, Fontaines DC, Lime Garden, Home Counties, Honeyglaze, but we have a wide range of influences - Millie often gets compared to Lily Allen (pre-David Harbour) and we also love a lot of 00’s bands like Death Cab for Cutie, LCD Soundsystem. When we write, we take a bit from everywhere and hopefully turn that into something unique.
You’ve had strong support from BBC Introducing and features across Spotify Fresh Finds, Apple Music, and even H&M’s in-store playlist. How have these moments impacted your momentum and visibility as an independent band?
It’s been massive - huge thanks has to go to BBC Introducing and particularly Dave Gilyeat, who’s given us a lot of airtime and also invited us to the BBC Intro set at Oxford a few years back which was a blast. Walking into H&M and hearing our music was also a bit of a trip! Didn’t get a discount though.
With a UK headline tour planned for Spring 2026, what can fans expect from the next era of Still Pigeon—musically, visually, or in the live experience?
We’ve just released our new single ‘Gas Off’, and we feel this is a bit of a departure for us. It’s still true to what we’ve been doing before, but we’re embracing alt-rock and our influences a bit more - and in Spring 26 we’re very excited to release our next EP which takes this even further. We feel we’ve matured as a band and a lot of the lyrics are more personal and intense. The writing also feels more cohesive than some of our earlier tracks, and with help from RYP Recordings and Metropolis Studios it’s definitely the best we’ve ever sounded. We’ve also got some great video content coming your way very soon.
This is going to be a really big year for us - we’ve got some big shows lined up around the release and we can’t wait to see you there!!
