Introducing: JELLYFISH

ree

Hailing from the vibrant heart of London, debbiesthuglife is a larger-than-life DJ, producer, and cultural force. Her electrifying DJ sets have become a staple across London’s most iconic clubs, while her NTS Radio residency showcases her genre-blurring mastery with effortless finesse. As a producer, her beats are as bold and captivating as her personality—driven by a deep-rooted love for music and a constant push for innovation. Having caught the attention of brands like Nike, Ray-Ban, Levi’s, and END., Debbie is more than a DJ or artist—she’s a movement. One that embodies the energy, chaos, and creativity of a new generation.

Her debut EP JELLYFISH dives deep into the unpredictable and emotional edges of club music, blending ambient textures with deconstructed bass and glitchy chaos. We caught up with her to talk about the EP, creative evolution, and what’s next.

From first SoundCloud edits to full-scale production and your own vocals—how has your DIY setup influenced the JELLYFISH sound?

My DIY setup forced me to lean into limitations, which ended up shaping the whole aesthetic. There’s a raw, unpredictable edge that came from using field recordings and limited gear. I wasn’t chasing perfection—I was chasing texture, chaos, and feeling. Every sound was pushed until it broke or revealed something unexpected.

The EP moves between softness and sting, much like a jellyfish. How do fluidity and tension show up in your music and process?

I was really drawn to jellyfish—they’re delicate but deadly. That contrast let me explore the space between softness and sting while still keeping things moving. The fluidity came from letting the tracks evolve naturally and flow into one another. That push and pull keeps the listener floating but never still.

You’ve made the jump from editing others’ work to putting your own voice front and centre. What’s that been like?

At first, I was hiding behind edits, using other people’s work to express stuff I couldn’t say directly. Now I’m making everything from scratch and using my own voice. That’s been a huge shift. It’s scary, but also really addictive. It made me realise that music’s not about perfection—it’s about being fearless, experimental, and honest.

There’s a strong contrast in tracks—some are pure club energy, others more introspective. How do you approach the pacing of a project like this?

I come from edits and DJ culture, so I think about projects like a set. I’d love to keep the energy high all the time, but you can’t burn people out. Hypnotic tracks give space to breathe and reset, and that makes the high-energy ones hit harder. It’s about controlling the momentum while still allowing emotional moments to come through

.

You’ve had love from Doja Cat, Denzel Curry, and Jaguar on BBC Radio 1. What’s surprised you the most since releasing JELLYFISH?

Honestly, every reaction’s blown me away. The most surprising thing is random people telling me it’s been on repeat. I expect my friends to listen, but strangers discovering it through socials or algorithms—that’s mad. As for Junction 2, I’m buzzing. It’s such an iconic space, and I just can’t wait to get the crowd moving. That’s exactly why I made this EP.
