Green Gardens return with new double single ‘Greeting / I Am Kind’ ahead of UK tour

Leeds indie-rock outfit Green Gardens have returned with a new double single, ‘Greeting’ / ‘I Am Kind’, released today via Tiny Library Records, alongside the announcement of a UK headline tour throughout March.

The two-track release showcases the band’s ability to balance intimacy with emotional weight. ‘Greeting’ pairs twangy guitars with hazy atmospherics as it examines the frustrations of longing — the desire for things to be different, to regain control, or to revisit the past. Songwriter Chris Aitchison describes the track as a reflection on how those feelings can distort reality.

“Before you know it, you’re in a loop,” Aitchison explains. “Like a tape skipping and dragging you back over the same ground. ‘Greeting’ is an attempt to change the cassette.”

Its companion piece, ‘I Am Kind’, stretches out across seven minutes of swelling strings and hypnotic repetition, building a quiet sense of hope. The song turns its title into a mantra, with layered violins gradually pushing forward together. Vocalist Jacob Cracknell says the track centres on a simple but powerful aim.

“All I want is to be kind. With everything that I have, how dare I not try to be.”

At the heart of the song is a recording of Cracknell’s mother speaking about her struggles while noting that the sun is shining — a moment the band describe as grounding the song’s emotional core. The new release continues the band’s recent creative momentum following their second album Thistlesifting, which arrived last year. Known for weaving lo-fi guitars, warm percussion and fragile melodies into expansive arrangements, Green Gardens draw influence from artists such as Sparklehorse, The Microphones and Broken Social Scene while maintaining a distinctly personal sound.

Following support from outlets including Clash, Far Out Magazine and BBC 6 Music DJs Steve Lamacq, Emil

y Pilbeam and Tom Robinson, the band will take the new material on the road this month.

The upcoming tour includes stops in Birkenhead, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Bristol, Brighton and more, before concluding with a show at The Windmill in Brixton on 24 March.
