Born in Birmingham but shaped by a globe-spanning palette of sounds, Flow of Lies are more than your average deep house collective. Blending the drive of dance beats with the soul of live-band roots, Paranoid JC and Ben Horobin bring a rich tapestry of influence—from smoky reggae bars to sweaty rock dives, and golden-era hip-hop cassettes—to the chilled, progressive pulse of their current sound.
As they continue to blur genre lines and push creative boundaries, we sat down with the duo to talk musical evolution, studio alchemy, and the ever-elusive search for a true sonic identity.
You & Me - Disclosure (Rivo Remix)
Instantly, the vocals and keys to this track captivated us from the start. The rolling progressive vibes and smooth bass definitely inspired our track ‘Nirvana’. We named this style of house music ‘sunset house’ for obvious reasons and that's a feeling we continue to try and evoke in our music.
Innerbloom - RUFUS DU SOL
We’ve always had a natural progressive element to the structure of our tracks. RUFUS DU SOUL do this immaculately and definitely influence the openness and wave-like feeling in some of our songs. Not to mention the transcendent vocals that leads the journey of the song.
Passionfruit - Drake
Being a hip-hop song this certainly stands out from the others however the vibe is very much still similar. The mellow yet transcendent instrumentation compared to the vocals. We saw ’Nirvana’ as a song suited to the late afternoon period by a pool or beach and ‘Passionfruit’ definitely sits in that sonic space as well.
Lifeline - Punctual, Aiko
‘Lifeline’ definitely represents the emphatic sound of modern deep house. It has all the quintessential elements and is a song we massively enjoy listening to and was one of the first newer deep house songs that influenced us to start producing in the genre.
