Introducing: Floss Jordan

Floss Jordan is the kind of artist who refuses to be boxed in. A genre-defying singer, songwriter, international DJ, producer, model and dancer, the London-based creative is a multi-hyphenate force blending bold sonic ambition with high-fashion edge. With a degree in music production from BIMM London and a portfolio that spans BBC airplay to global DJ sets for Chanel and Netflix, Floss now returns with ‘Midas’ — a shimmering, emotionally charged track that flips the Greek myth on its head. Poetic, powerful, and pulsing with energy, this is Floss Jordan in her purest form: magnetic, untouchable, and impossible to ignore.

1. “Embers” is raw, explosive, and deeply emotional — touching on narcissism and toxic dynamics. What was the turning point that led you to write this track, and how did it feel to put that experience into words and sound?

Embers is probably one of my more intense songs, lyrically, vocally and production wise. Embers was written with two other writers, JD Donovan and Kimberley George. It draws from my personal experiences. We were also taking inspiration from some of the elements: Water, Earth, Gold and Fire. This lead us to a concept EP where the four tracks each represent one of the elements: my track ‘Salt’ for water, ‘Clay’ for earth, ‘Midas’ for gold and ‘Embers’ for fire. We wanted the production to be fierce and strong like fire, an outlet of emotion. It was good to try out a more ‘belty’ powerful vocal style.

2. You’ve been called a genre-defying artist. How do your backgrounds in dance, DJing, and music production shape the way you write and produce songs like “Embers” or “Midas”?

I think having a background in dance has contributed to my music style. Midas and Embers both have a more commercial dance feel, which I reckon has partly been influenced by being a commercial dancer. I’ve always been drawn to electronic sounds and mix a lot of electronic dance music in my DJ sets. I love creating synth bass and synth pad sounds. Having a background in music production has also helped me collaborate with other producers. It was great to work with producer JD Donovan on this EP.

3. Your work spans from BBC Introducing support to playing high-fashion DJ sets for brands like Chanel and Netflix. How do you navigate being both a club-ready performer and a deeply vulnerable songwriter?

I am so grateful for all the support from BBC Introducing and for all the DJ opportunities. I really love all forms of the arts, especially dance and music, but also theatre, fashion, art and film. I love the contrast of the club DJ sets and then the peaceful environment of being at home writing with my piano. I guess I have always been a bit “across the board” when it comes to my career. This has had its positives and a few negatives, as it can sometimes be challenging to balance everything. I decided to put my dancing on hold for a while in order to focus on my music and djing. However, it has been really fun to incorporate dance into my visuals and music videos. I am forever thankful for all the opportunities and I feel so lucky to be able to pursue a career in the arts.

4. TikTok lit up around “Midas” — over 2,000 comments is no small thing. How has social media changed the way you share music and connect with your audience?

It was amazing to see the TikTok community loving ‘Midas’ and hearing what they think about the track. I struggle with anxiety and in the past I think this has held me back a bit to put myself out there on social media. It’s been so great to see people loving ‘Midas’ and all the lovely comments. I now feel I can embrace social media in a more liberating way. I have so much more music on the way, which I’m really looking forward to sharing with you all.

5. With such a dynamic creative résumé — dancer, model, producer, DJ — where do you feel most yourself, and how does that core identity feed into what we hear on your upcoming releases?

Thank you so much, I would say dancing was where I first felt most myself and more confident. I’m actually quite a shy person, I get really nervous speaking in public, so with dancing it was a way to express myself. Having amazing support from family and friends, I eventually built up the courage to sing and put myself out there as an artist. I am so thankful to everyone who has helped me on my journey. There is a lot more music to come. I will be releasing many more alternative pop tracks, plus some more cinematic tracks too. I will also be releasing some dance music which I’m very excited about, stay tuned!
