There’s an unmistakable sense of conviction running through everything this rising songwriter creates. Whether she's unpacking heartbreak, navigating mental health, or finding inspiration in the people around her, every song begins with an honest story before blossoming into something universally relatable. Following her debut EP I Wasn't Listening, she's now preparing to unveil Attention Seeking – a bolder, brighter collection that sees her embracing her own voice, trusting her instincts and pushing her songwriting into exciting new territory.
Recorded across London with producer Eva Valentin, the five-track EP captures an artist no longer writing to meet expectations, but creating the music she genuinely wants to make. Ahead of its release, we caught up with her to discuss the writers who inspire her, the resilience required to build a career in music, and why songwriting has become the place where she feels most like herself.
1. Writing music is clearly a deeply personal process for you. What is it about songwriting that keeps drawing you back, and where do your songs usually begin?
writing music is my favourite thing in the world. its a way of processing past events, current thoughts and future plans in a beautiful and creative way. from heartbreak or mental health struggles to writing about things my friends are going through, i find a story and a hook and go with it !!
2. Which artists have had the biggest influence on your songwriting, and what have you taken from the way they approach their craft?
gracie abrams, billie and finneas i would say have influenced my songwriting the most. they don’t use simple lyrics, they dive into imagination and storytelling which other artists maybe don’t. i’ve tried to embrace their work in my own when i write material and think outside the box lyrically.
3. You're still at the beginning of your journey as an artist. How have live performances and the challenges of balancing music with everyday life shaped your perspective so far?
once a month i perform at an open mic night in my town called the ferret , which is a small music venue. it reminds me what im working towards. every cranky customer i serve at work as a barista is just me getting one step closer to recording a new song. my music story has barley begun and ive already faced numerous set backs. but im learning resilience and that one persons no can be another persons yes. people like different things. you can be the sweetest peach on the tree and some people just don’t like peaches - that quote helps me see hindsight. and at the end of the day, music fills this whole inside me and i get so much comfort and self satisfaction from creating.
4. Your upcoming EP Attention Seeking marks a new chapter. How does it differ from I Wasn't Listening, and what can listeners expect from this new collection of songs?
my upcoming ep is very different to ‘i wasn’t listening’. my first ep i played very safe, i chose songs based on what i thought people wanted to hear and could relate to but it had a sad tone to it. ‘attention seeking’ has a very fun vibe. it consists of 5 tracks that i recorded across london with my producer, eva valentin, including at the baltic studios where my idols have been! it was a fantastic experience. the first song on the ep, ‘this hill’ nearly didn’t make it. she was a silly side quest we worked on in an afternoon that we fell in love with and also screamed the title of this record.
5. Music seems to have given you confidence in a way that extends beyond songwriting. What has creating and performing your own music taught you about yourself?
when i struggle to speak or fear i sound stupid, flip flopping numbers and letters, writing and performing my music gives me this second voice, almost an alter ego. it lets me express my thoughts, feelings and opinions. growing up i always felt dumb. but the world is so much more than pens and paper, there’s so much art to be made and one day it just clicked that i don’t have to be brilliant at that thing because im actually good at something else. everybody has there thing and we all find it eventually, but music is mine.
