Getting To Know: DAYZIES

1. DAYZIES, you formed in late 2021. Can you share the story of how the band came together and what inspired you to create music as a group?

I (Liam) had the idea for DAYZIES way back in Late 2017 when I was drumming for a band called Palm Beach. Writing songs in my home studio here and there and a few people told me to go for it. Lock down hit, and the band kind of dissolved l. So as soon as lockdown was over, and I was out of a very difficult long distance relationship I decided to contact our bassist Francis Murray, who I played in bands with in the past during our college days and he just so happened to come out of a relationship too. We both put our heads together and our popped our suburban single SHORT LIVED ROMANCE!

2. Your debut single "SHORT LIVED ROMANCE" gained significant success, receiving radio play across the UK and internationally. How did the positive response to your first release impact the band, and how did it shape your approach to subsequent music?

it made us want more if I’m honest, the hunger for us has always been there but we realised what we had going for us and kept at it. I always want to try and produce something that’s a bit different from the rest and try not to keep to one musical direction. As a band, we all have different influences and styles and I think that shines through and maybe what makes us a little different from your average indie band. That’s why we like to keep that alt in the genre!

3. DAYZIES has built a loyal fan base, selling out headline shows and supporting notable acts like ANDREW CUSHIN, DEADLETTER, BILK, and more. How has this live performance experience influenced your growth as a band, and what have you learned from sharing the stage with established artists?

It has made us a lot more professional in what we do and especially how we approach live shows. We have always tried to put on a show from the very first one. But now we have a lot more of an understanding of the effort that you have to put in to try and push yourself to the next level. A lot of what we have learned and experienced as a band has lead us on to some amazing things and we can’t wait to see what next year holds for us.

4. "I LOVE IT" was well-received by both radio and press, solidifying your presence in the indie music scene. How do you approach the creative process when working on new music, and what themes or inspirations drive your songwriting?

We don’t really have a specific way of approaching anything. Music and melody normally come first but we don’t really stick to any kind of format. Like I said earlier, we all have different inspirations which helps to create different sounds. But we’ve all grown up on the same influences on tv and pop culture so we all have a middle ground of inspiration. It works!

5. Congratulations on signing with Bubblebrain Records! How has this new partnership influenced your musical journey, and what can fans expect from your upcoming release, ‘Eskimo’?

Since joining Bubblebrain it’s been a bit of another kick up the arse for us and we have tried to up our professionalism. I handed my notice into my day job as a plumber to free up more time to organise and manage our next moves as we are currently self managed. We really want to take advantage of being a signed band and propel Dayzies to the next level. Eskimo is the begining of many things to come in our eyes. We have so much more under our sleeve but we want it to get to the right audience so we are hoping to grow our fan base even further with this track.

6. Liam, you mentioned that "Eskimo" is about relationships and carries a more punk indie sound with heavy guitars. How does this track showcase the evolution of DAYZIES' musical style, and what inspired the choice of themes for this particular song?

When I first had the idea for Eskimo I never thought it would end up as fast and hard as it has turned out. I had a more SHORT LIVED feel in my head initially but that’s the joy of taking songs into the practice room and letting the juices flow. The lyrics are once again about past relationships as my past relationships have really shaped my life.

7. The lyrics of "Eskimo" seem deeply personal. Can you elaborate on the storytelling aspect of your songwriting and how you find a balance between sharing personal experiences and creating relatable music for your audience?

The lyrics are very personal. But like any song, from any other band you can listen to lyrics and find your own meaning or relate to them in your own way. I could have used her real name but instead I chose to use her nickname. It’s a release for me every time I sing my lyrics and brings me back to the emotions I felt when writing them. Music has always been my coping method and getting through hard times.
