Fresh off the release of her bold new EP RISK IT, the Australian pop provocateur returns with a fearless collection of slut anthems, filthy fun, and unapologetic freedom. Led by the thumping, no-holds-barred focus track NO REGRETS, BIG WETT is once again daring us to let go, lean in, and live loudly.
Crowned by NME, Mixmag, Dazed, Playboy France and more as one of pop’s most unforgettable forces, BIG WETT is redefining what it means to be a queer icon in 2025—one scandalous, sexually liberated banger at a time. We caught up with her to talk wild shows, new music, and why there’s no such thing as going too far.
1. ‘RISK IT’ feels like a full-throttle dive into liberation, sex positivity, and self-acceptance. What risks did you take—personally or artistically—while creating this EP?
I think any choice in life has a risk - inaction is action in itself. You have to decide for yourself every moment whether you do it all, or do none of it - either way there's a risk involved. I've done so many things in my life (I've been writing a memoir since I was 14 so trust me I have some storiiiieeessssss)..... but, I have also said no to a lot of things (forcefully and intentionally, good and bad etc). Mostly, I'd rather risk doing something and it not working out because there's always a lesson in failure, than missing out and regretting it later on. So I'm what you'd call a YES MAN.
2. Your music has been described as “poppers-soaked,” “filthy fun,” and “a surreal set of slut anthems.” How do you balance outrageous humor with real emotional honesty in your work?
I wouldn’t say I balance that at all haha I intentionally stay away from emotional stuff in my music. BIG WETT was born in lockdown, so it existed as a place to escape from the troubles of the world - which also means staying away from matters of the heart or the mind. That idea still really resonates with me - I really want people to step into the same world and allow themselves a reprieve from responsibility, even just for night. I think we all deserve it.
3. Tracks like ‘EAT IT’ and ‘PONY (RIDE ME)’ feel like pure adrenaline on the dance floor. What’s the energy you’re trying to create when you perform live—and how do your shows feed into your songwriting?
Someone once wrote about me "the only person having more fun than the crowd is BIG WETT herself", which made me laugh cause it's so fkn true. I'm always having the best time ever - turns out dancing my heart out and screaming profanities and sex positions at the crowd is so much fun. It's even better when they sing my lyrics back at me... Creating a safe space where people can express themselves any way they want, with no judgements is something I really strive for, and even though there's always such a random assortment of people at my shows, everyone ends up feeling like best friends afterwards. I guess yelling "KING DICK, SO THICK" in perfect harmony really unifies people, and that's why a lot of my lyrics are repeated because it gives everyone in the crowd a chance to sing it themselves.
4. You’ve become a symbol of hyper-vocal queer expression and femme power. What do you hope young queer artists take away from your journey so far?
Thank you, I really appreciate that sentiment - the femme and queer communities both hold such a huge place in my heart, and I think nurturing a community spirit between ourselves is so important. We're only letting the patriarchy win if we fight amongst ourselves.
People can just tell if you're being inauthentic, so always speak your mind about what you want, and present the way that you truly are and feel. I think the most important thing to remember is that there's a place in the world for everyone, especially with social media. There's people with millions of followers on tiktok reviewing cookies and milk, or playing the Sims or cleaning houses (no hate to anyone on TT thanks for the entertainment). There's millions of people embarrassing themselves on the internet for something less cool than creating art and music and performance and stories - so never doubt that if you put it out there, the right people will find you. I still trust the universe will get me into the ears of the people who will love it. Yes, along the way, you get people who hate what you do and think you're an idiot - so what? To have haters is to be remembered. It's free PR, use it to your advantage. My song CRAZY (from my new EP, RISK IT) pretty much sums up my sentiment about people who talk shit about me or doubt me. So I guess my advice is that despite your self-doubt..... do it anyway. RISK IT xx
5. If ‘PU$$Y’ was your riotous intro and ‘RISK IT’ is your rebirth, what’s the next era of BIG WETT going to look like—and what boundaries are left to break?
Everything! There are so many pies I haven't fingered yet. After touring RISK IT through the UK, EU and Aus, I'm planning on releasing a Christmas song which I've always wanted to do, and I also just made a remix of EAT MY ASS which I'm super excited about! There's also so many unreleased tracks in my demos folder, so many collab songs, and songs I need to finish, so it'll be another busy year! I really can't wait for people to hear new music from me and see me perform my silly fun sexy songs somewhere in the world near them.
