The Maddocks Return With Instinct-Driven New Single "PIGS"

Stockport post-punk outfit The Maddocks are back with explosive new single "PIGS," a restless, riff-heavy cut that sees the four-piece trading conceptual storytelling for pure instinct.

Out now via APOLLO Distribution, "PIGS" captures the band's most immediate sound yet, fusing wiry post-punk urgency with the hook-laden swagger of Supergrass and The Libertines. Written together during a single rehearsal before being recorded just weeks later, the track embraces spontaneity, with the band intentionally leaving its meaning open to interpretation.

"'PIGS' is a song about everything and nothing," the band explain. "Our releases last year were all based around concepts and strong themes, so this felt like the complete opposite. The lyrics are probably more open to interpretation than anything we've released before."

They add: "In an age where it feels harder than ever for bands to break through, you need to truly love what you're creating to stay motivated. If 'PIGS' really represents anything, it's our love of writing, playing live, and being in The Maddocks."

The single arrives alongside a new video directed by longtime collaborators Michael Haines and Dylan Starkie, continuing the creative partnership behind the visuals for last year's acclaimed double A-side "Sheela/Liminal."

Formed by four childhood friends who all met at school after being born in the same Stockport hospital, The Maddocks have steadily carved out a reputation as one of the North West's most exciting guitar bands.

Across two EPs and a string of singles, they've earned backing from BBC Radio 6 Music, John Kennedy, Huw Stephens, and Tim Burgess, while building a devoted following through their blistering live performances, including sold-out headline shows at Manchester's iconic Deaf Institute.
